I have had the Buell Pro race ECM and race pipe on my 06 Uly for about a year now. After riding 2 Uly's with stock pipes I realized I missed the quiet.

Based on what I read on the thread about wired open exhausts, I decided to switch back, wire the valve open but leave the race ECM on. Here's my take so far.

ENGINE RESPONSE
The engine pulls smoothly now throughout the RPM range. The drop at 4200 RPM that the race pipe exhibited has been eliminated with this combo. Low speed is awesome with either pipe and the race ECM continues to almost completely eliminate any pinging I had with the stock ECM.

MILEAGE
I started riding without bags and got as high as 49 MPG. My first tank with the new combo got 47 MPG. I think mileage will be the same or very close.

SOUND
The wired open pipe is throatier without being overly loud. I can hear what's going on with the engine now which is kind of nice. I got the chance to run my race pipe next to a Drummer a few weeks ago and the Drummer had a much lower note. I'll miss the zoom zoom of the race pipe but touring the Great Smoky Mountains almost demands the respect of the stock pipe.

Before I put the stock pipe back on I removed the rust and repainted it flat black. I'll miss my shiny Buell race pipe but it's off to EBay land for it.

Best, Orange

We just dyno tuned three Uly's, well if you include TT's, with the Pro Race pipe and Direct Link.

I had my stock pipe tuned on the dyno tuned as is and with valve wired open. I went back to stock map after a while. Any top end improvement was not worth the mid-range.

Having ridden and seen dyno charts of the Pro-series pipe, when dyno tuned with direct-link not merely the ECM map originally sold with the race kit, I am happy that beneficial performance with no loss at any throttle position is attainable. Recognize too that we have tuned numerous pipes, Jardine, Drummer, et al and put this experience to the test running in Pikes Peak Race to the Clouds this year. Our environment is void of sufficient oxygen as it is, and we often ride up another 6,000 feet to traverse 12,000 foot passes so your mileage may very.

MILEAGE UPDATE

I now have two more gas mileage readings with this setup. The 2nd increased to 50 mpg and the 3rd to 52 mpg. This is my best mileage ever and first time breaking the 50 mpg barrier. Both days were spirited riding in the twisties with some short stretches of interstate speeds.

Orange,
What kind of wind screen do you have?
How heavy and tall are you?
What gas do you run?
Keep us posted on the mpg.
Thanks.

Orange,

Don't forget to report the fuel mileage effect of the side cases.

Electraglider. The mpg numbers are with the stock screen. I was running with the newer Buell tall and switched back. I am 6' 2, 215. 10% ethanol has been the norm. I just finished another tank and dropped to 48 mpg. I get better mileage without my side bags and these numbers are without bags.

Still lovin this combo!
