Does anyone have a pic of the 08 Uly oil cooler. I need to see the mounting brackets, line connections, size measurements and a plate/row count of the cooler itself.

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Different fittings, and the routing and hook up to the engine is entirely different from the adaptation of the XBRR oil pump.

I'll see if I can get some photos today for you. I too want to adapt this to my '07 Uly.

I took some good photos, but have no photo editing at work, and files are too big to post so this will have to wait for tonight.

Is there a higher volume oil pump available to push the higher volume? I'm assuming it will make a difference.

JJ, off topic here. Is that an actual OEM bracket for the clutch cable or home-fabricated? The earlier models have a cheap wireform clip that break like pretzel sticks, causing the cable to melt against the exhaust header.

I believe Buell has a higher flowing pump gear set in their performance line. The relative merits of this are probably discussed in numerous posts elsewhere on BWB.

The pump on the 2008 Buells is adapted from the XBRR and is a different style pump than 2007 & older and, as the photos show, is not a bolt on with DDFI2 timing changes.

I do not know a higher flowing pump is, or is not needed to add the 8-row oil cooler.

Great pics JJ. Thats just what the doctor ordered.

It appears to be the standard 8 row 2 pass units like the ones produced by Thermal Dynamics/Fluidine. It probably has less pressure drop than the 06/07 6 row 2 pass units, while maintaining about the same flow distance. It looks to be about the same size as the Jagg 10 row 2 pass unit. The front bracket appears unchanged and the rear bracket has been redesigned to accommodate the increase in width. I see the new hoses are rubber vs the braided hoses from earlier years. Different fittings as well. Also looks like the air scoop is larger with more opening area, hard to tell though. A pair of 80mm fans (160+ cfm) will get more than double the air flow that I have with my 60mm fans (80 cfm) on the chiller mod.

A little hose work would allow the 08 cooler to be installed on earlier models, just not sure it would be worth the effort for just 2 more plates.

Thanks again for the great shots JJ.

Why do they mount the cooler sideways and not forward?

To conserve space, and not take away from the air to the front cylinder. The scoop sorta makes up for it, but the coolers I am familiar with draft the air from the inside out with a air deflector.

More to come.

I think that is fabricated. My '08 has the wire form and it broke within the first 200 miles of ownership. Getting it replaced this weekend along with a new clutch cable. After it's replaced I plan to rig something stronger up to replace the wire form.

Natron: that's weird - same thing happened to my '08 (a demo) that I just got a couple of weeks ago. The wire clip must have broken within the first 300 miles and partially melted the clutch cable against the header (before I purchased the Uly). I noticed it within 5 mins of getting it home in my garage. I rode it right back to the dealer, they switched out a wire clip from a leftover'07 Uly on to my '08 temporarily and then ordered a new clutch cable. They finally installed the new cable today (n/c). That bears watching for the any re-occurence in the future. hopefully this is a freak thing and not a trend! Everything else on the '08 has been fantastic so far.

>>>Why do they mount the cooler sideways and not forward?

Vertical air is about 2% cooler than horizontal air and by catching the air in front of the bike it's not warmed by the friction generated from flowing over the surfaces.

: )
Yeaaaaaahh. . . right.

Is that like the beer at the bottom of the keg gets you drunker 'cause the alcohol settles to the bottom?

A little hose work would allow the 08 cooler to be installed on earlier models

An Annon. poster said that it was NOT a replacement for the older ones. And that the factory oil pump in the older models could not supply enough oil/pressure to handle the larger cooler.

That's what they said. Take it however you wish.

Thanks man, but just cause he said it with conviction, that don't mean chit to me.

Ya see, I HAVE to learn things the hard way.

It's my destiny.

I'm sure the older oil pump can handle the larger cooler, it's the engine that's going to suffer. Remember the oil pressure has to be high enough to spray the underside of the pistons and that may turn into a dribble if you add the 08' oil cooler. I'm just guessing this though, but I would not take that chance at all, not worth it. Maybe a slightly larger air scoop on the 06' oil cooler would accomplish what you are after. Or turn on those fans you've mounted anytime your engines running.

Thanks EG. I couldn't agree more. I won't be installing an 08 cooler on mah red eyed armadillo. But a 10x7 single pass, high capacity orifice regulated plate cooler with almost zero pressure drop may be in the cards.

Any one know where I can get a 10x7 carbon fiber scoop?

Don't they usually put the coolers on the return lines?
Isn't that the way it is on XB engines?
