Well...it's time to take the plunge & add 1 more thing to the Uly's list of add on's. There appear to be only a few voltmeters that can withstand the rigors of motorcycle life - kuryakyn of course being one - are there others that you would recommend ? I think I prefer a digital read out, but not closed off to other options. Thanks all. j

I copied Ft_bstrd ...

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/335986.html?1202653245

It works.. when my stator went south.. I had enough warning to get it home.

I also did the Signal Dynamics LED voltmeter, and it works well.

Also did the Sig Dy LED, grafted in with the idiot lights. Should be a factory item on the Uly. It's not too bright when under the tinted dash.

I put a little piece of window tint over it to dim it. Works great.

Ft bstrd & all - Thanks for the info - I like the unobtrusive mounting...looks like it belongs there. 2 remaining questions on install. 1) What size hole did you drill in the face plate to accommodate the bulb? {or is that apparent & part of the instructions?} 2) What circuit did you tap into to power the little (hopefully) green light? The hole diameter is in the instructions. There is a little snap ring that goes into the hole to hold the LED.

I tapped into the accessory plug. It's switched and goes off when you turn the key off.

Which is why I mounted the LED on the printed circuit board.

I have a Passport Radar detector which shows the voltage in digatal form and gives a warning when v's drop below a threshold. The luminosity can be adjusted also. Nice little handlbar addition, but illigal in Va. I also have a Garmin 376c which I can set one of the readings to voltage and also get a digital readout (when in Virginia). Both work very well for me. Let me know when the votage regulator went out, unfortunatly I was to far from home to make it there, left stranded in a four lane hiway during rush hour, no fun.

I still have to install my P-38 exploding space modulator. That should change it to yellow!

The Garmin NUVI 750 has a hidden menu that can be accessed by pressing the screen where the battery charge level indicator normally is for about 5 seconds. The first page of the menu shows the external voltage level. I use it for a spot check. I know it's not a continuous monitor, but better than nothing.

I also did the fatty LED mod. On my Cyclone it was too bright, but on my XB it's fine since it's behind the tinted plastic.
