I like that monster. How does it affect the gas mileage? I'm all for great wind protection as it makes for a more pleasurable ride. | ||

It really only breaks a hole in the air not much larger than the stock screen and me on the bike. On the highway at 70mph the fuel mileage is about 1.5 to 2 mpg less than normal. I rode with Orangeulius and Gotj and three others last weekend on a back road loop and my mileage was my normal 53mpg for that kind of riding. From what I saw I was the only one doing wheelies from the stop signs too. I think that with that and my heated grips and HD electric jacket, I was probably warmer than the other riders. Wind protection is nice. It is a bit obnoxious for warm weather though, so it comes off for warmer seasons. | ||

Hey Vern, No, I've never raced before, but I used to photograph some of the events around the Pittsburgh area (westrnPA), in the mid-seventies or so,and sell my photos at the following events. I did that and drank way too much Boones Farm. To be honest, I don't really recall all that much of the early seventies.  . BTW... love the BAW- very cool. Boones farm......ugh.....been there done that! ugh. I was busy paying cash payments for Bush Gardens Tampa. My buddies and I paid for that place a case+ at a time(daily). Use to go to PMS for invitationals crewing for some friends with Super Lates and Open Wheel Modifieds. Great times. | ||

Karl, No worries at all, I doubt if anyone will ever sneak up and put one on your bike when you are not looking. By the way, I think it is fuggly too. It is a functioning piece still in the works. I started with what worked best for what I was looking for and now that I have function I'm starting on the asthetics. Trimming down is a matter of testing and cutting, then testing some more. There are really three objectives, being in this order; 1. to move air around the rider for wind protection in cold weather and rain. 2. to be able to ride through Florida in love bug season keeping the mess on the windshield(so I never have to wash my riding gear at a car-wash again)and not on me(they taste terrible too). 3. to not have ill effects on the handling or asthetics of the bike(the main reasons for continued down sizing). It really doesn't bother handling or acceleration as it doesn't punch a hole in the air much bigger than me on the bike. The biggest issue there is being able to get forward onto the bars for hitting the twisties, and not having the edge flash back and forth as I switch from side to side in the tight corners. | ||

I think it's starting to look pretty good. The shape is getting close to the original Slipstreamer, no, make that the original National Plexifairing I put on an R75/5 years ago but without the bulges. ETenn ... what did you start with? (Message edited by Gatlinburger on December 05, 2007) | ||

Hey don't get me wrong that windshield has a place, just not at my place!! No really i am sure it works well. I think I would like to come and ride with you guys. At the end of the day we would always have someone to pick on. Just kidding but I am sure the jokes will continue until you start beating the jokesters | ||

ETenn ... what did you start with? A 4' X 10' X 3/16 sheet of plexiglass. It won't retain shaping even with the most extreme heat. Cuts with a fine blade on a sabre saw, sand edges with 320G on a DA. I did cut it in half before I started though!  Mounting up 4' X 10' would have been tough! Hey Karl, You should see the bikes line up behind me when it get real cold or starts raining!(as long as I didn't have the burrito platter!) |
