OK, I think this is getting a bit silly. I spend more time on this board than any other and I don't even own a Buell. For some reason, however, I keep thinking about the Uly. However.... I rented an Electra Glide earlier this week for a day and my wife and I put about 500 miles on it. She can't go that long on my Dyna even though I have a comfortable Mustang seat. Her problem is the bend in her knee the Dyna forces. The Electra Glide allowed her to be a bit more stretched out. I don't know how the Uly will be. I went to test drive one again this weekend, and my local dealer didn't have one at all new or used. He was pretty low on bikes overall though, as they had shipped some bikes to a sister dealership for a tent sale. Maybe they had shipped of their Uly as well. Or maybe they have sold their 07 and are waiting for an 08 to come in. Back to the reason for my post... While on the Electra Glide I really enjoyed the radio. I could actually hear it really well and the reception was very good. It got me thinking I would like to add a radio to whatever I ride for long rides. I'm guessing that adding a radio to the Buell means running headphones from a handlebar mounted radio unit to under your helmet. Do any of you guys have that? How has it worked for you? My wife and I have Chatterboxs so we can talk when we ride and listen to music more her than me. Works great. Earpiece is in the helmet. | ||

You could mount some 10" subwoofers into the saddle cases, amp under the seat, and tweeters everywhere!!!! Run it all from an Ipod docking port on the handlebars. Mwa-hahaha Mwa-hahahahahaha!  | ||

I have a Delphi Roady XT XM radio on my bars. I wear in-ear type headphones most of the time. When my wife comes along on her bike we use the Chatterbox X1 headsets and I pipe it through the speakers. I used to have the Delphi XM2Go unit. I really liked it since it had a volume control that was easy to use with gloves. Now I use a radio shack inline volume control with the Roady XT. | ||

My solution - which I think is probably as close to ideal as you can get for any motorcycle - is to mount an XM capable Garmin GPS and get the music through that. I pipe the music into my helmet through earbuds, but you could mount a set of speakers to the handlebars and use them as well. | ||

I also have the same set-up as Old-mil. I have the Garmin 376C with xm and also weather. I do have an in-line interupt for my radar detector and also I can funnel the xm/gps/radar detector through my autocom unit for a cb when my fiance' is on her Scg. We are thus able to communicate when we are just deadheading around. We use the cb sparingly only for notification for gas or photo ops etc. | ||

...by the way, one of the major problems I've had trying to get music on motorcycles is alternator whine in the audio. I've tried stand alone XM receivers hard wired to the bike, with and without line filters, with and without amps. Nothing seemed to matter. The Garmin XM setup I have now gives me 100% clean audio and I'm really happy with it. It's also water/weather proof, which isn't the case for stand alone receivers. | ||

And on the subject of in-ear speakers you really need to check out Etymotic ER6i earphones. They do two things. Dampen harmful noises and provide very good audio. http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er6.aspx | ||

J&M's handlebar mounted CB is slick. CB WX, plus an audio input for XM I-pod, or anyother source. Would like a 376C or Zumo, but $$$$ | ||

FWIW, we got rid of an Electra glide for the ULY based on the better half's statement that the ULY was " more comfortable than the dresser!" I am glad she saw it that way since there was a deposit on it before she test rode as a passenger. We do miss the radio some on long trips but a Starcom 1 Advance communicator hooked to the walkman/ipod does the trick. |
