Back in February, when it was cold and snowy, I got the recall notice for the Bank Angle Sensor. I put it aside on my desk and didn't think about it much. The thought of the 90 minute ride to the dealer in 30 Degree temps was not something I wanted to do.

Well, now, it's warmish and I've been out riding a bit. I called to make the appointment to get the sensor replaced but I have to wait three weeks before I can get in.

What's the consensus: ride or wait for the replacement? Of course, I will have to ride to the dealer to get the replacement but am I pushing it by continuing to ride until then?

I have just over 2000 miles on my 2006.

Thanks.

I have an 06 Uly with 8k on the clock. I didn't even know there was a recall until the previous owner called me and told me about the recall.

I have had zero issues up to the time i took it in....

As far as the dealer, find another one. I called mine on a Tuesday, they ran the recall notices and noticed I needed the kickstand and BAS. He put them on order and I got a call on Friday to bring the bike in as they had the two items in.

I also did a 10k service on the bike. It was $674.00 total... OUCH! and that was the 10k service because the recalls are free.

The breakdown was $75 in parts and $594+tax in labor.....

Keep riding it. Some fail. Others do not. I've lost two. The symptoms are predictable, bike feels like there is no spark because there isn't.

Simply cycle the kill switch while rolling and the spark returns.

Ride the hell out of it. As said above, not all have a problem some have had multiple replacements, mine has had three.

Use caution on freeways, busy roads etc... Position yourself in the lane not to get rear ended if your bike dies. Bike speed will drop quick, even if you are fast at cycling the kill switch.

The recall is for the locating position. It does not change the BAS itself. I would expect some were already at the point of failure when relocated.

Any one have the recall done, then replace a BAS, then have another one fail?

The problem with the recall is they only relocate the sensor. They do not replace it. If it was marginal to start with it may still fail, but I have not had any problem with mine since it was relocated.

By relocating, what is done? I assume its that little box under the ECM.

Thanks,

David

Called my dealer on Tuesday last week and they made an appointment to do it while I waited the next day;. Took all of a 1/2 hour to relocate the BAS. Seems a bit of customer service is lacking if your dealer tells you 3 weeks for such a simple service bulletin.

David,

The BAS is located under the ECM. The problem is a combination of heat, vibration, and seat flex. The relocation affixes it to a metal mounting plate behind the striker loop for the seat in the rear of the tail section. The void behind the latch will be filled with metal and BAS once completed.

Thank you! Now I have a better understanding of what is being done.

Here I thought the BAS was bad but its the location that can effect the BAS.

Hopefully your BAS isn't damaged already.

Called the nearest dealer about 5 weeks ago. They put me on the"list".They said they would call me when the parts came in.I hate having someone else work on my bike, but in the case of a recall I guess I have no choice.I might have to choose another dealer.

Easy!(It's a London Limey greeting)

I think you good 'ol boys over there in the oo ess of ay must have used up the all stock of replacement BAS's 'cos I got me recall letter a month ago and when I dropped in to my dealer last week they said they're still waitin'for the parts to be delivered.

I wish they'd hurry up and get the parts in 'cos I want them to look at my front brake set-up as it's pulseing like a bastard now but I don't want to loose riding time for two separate issues as it is rally season now here in the UK.

Thinking about it (having read up on the previous posts on this issue) they could just extend the wiring harness but I suppose it has to be an official issue part,oh well.

I still love the beast though-I was riding back from this w/ends rally yesterday and it could have been the lack of sleep or the fact that I was blissfully happy in a relaxed way, having spent the past couple of days in a beautiful English countryside location making friends with like minded Rat bike riders, but even after having ridden 150 miles in the pissing rain on motorways(slab/freeway) I was really getting off on the exhaust note/lazy torque delivery,fan-bloody tastic!

Oh yeah,is there a thread going to praise the comfort of the Uly saddle? (Retorical) It's so much better than my Triumph Tiger(99 model) which I went to Scotland and back on (from London area).

150 miles in one hit(3.5hrs-heavy traffic/road works(repairs)) and I felt like I could of carried on, ok so only maybe 50-100miles more but then you've got to fill the tank sometime right?(I know, it won't do much more than 150ish miles before reserve.)

Back to the BAS issue-I agree, carry on riding but I'm glad I saw the Kill-switch cycling tip on here.Cheers Ft_Bstrd.

Ps,I'm seriously lucky to be living 6 miles from my dealer and 2 miles from a small independant bike shop, (Shout out to HOGBITZ,Gravel Lane,Chigwell,Essex,UK-only been there a couple of times but they were friendly, helpful and have quite a good sense of humour which they'll need when they see it next time I go there(some odd parts starting to be attached to it!(spelling of Humour/English English not American English?))gotta be cheaper for servicing etc.

Sorry, back again, my Uly is late '05 with 6000 miles on it(2500 by me).

BTW,on my recent motorway 'jet-ski' style wet weather journey, the poor old girl was getting regular glitches in engine running(like the ignition was being momentarily cut) due I expect to the massive increase of moisture in the atmosphere.Think she was running on a water/petrol/air mixture-LOL!
