Does anyone know of a company that sells a lower front fender for the Ulysses. That is to replace the Bill with a normal 1 or 2 inch off the tire fender. Please don't tell me to put one on from another model. The tube protectors don't go down far enough and I don't want a half way job.

Thanks fellas

Just use a Firebolt or Lightning front fender. I have one on my uly and it looks great.

The problem is that those do not protect the forks.

One good rock chip and you create a lot of stiction.

Thunderbox - This may not help but...for your info, should you decide to lower your ULY by 1.5" - 2", a Lightning fender will cover the inner fork tubes completely from the front.

Warbaby, how much did it cost to have your suspension lowered? I'm assuming you had to replace the fork springs. Did you have to replace your rear shock? Are you having any clearance issues with the rear wheel hitting the underside of the tail section? How's the ride with less travel?
Any and all info would be appreciated.

Crusty,

Some food for thought depending on how much you want to spend. This thread has the stock shock lengths for various Buells:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/173100.html

This thread, of which you were part, has Edc's low-cost procedure:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/173100.html

I followed Edc's approach but got different results. I got a used shock from an XB9, 14.0", and put it on my Uly which has 14.8". It lowered it 1 1/2" in the rear. Edc used the XB12Ss which is 13.6" and also observed a 1 1/2" drop. I haven't followed up with him to figure out why.

I'm going to drop the triple clamps about the same amount in front once I get the sidestand shortened.

I have been riding it with nothing more than the rear shock intalled and front preoload two lines softer than recommended for my weight to get the front down a little. It's not a huge difference in handling. It may be a bit stiffer in the rear but not annoying. I've not been over anything that would push the shock far enough to know about clearance issues. I tried to find a reasonably-priced shock spring compressor but no luck. I was going to remove the spring and install the shock to check clearance. To my knowledge Edc has had no clearance issues and his shock is shorter than mine so that gave me some peace of mind.

I am suggesting this because you can get a used shock for around $100 and then decide whether you like the basic feel before you pop the big bucks for Wilbers shocks and fork springs or whatever flavor you like.

I happy so far.

Crusty - Price and other info is here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/228551.html

Pics are here: http://zenfire.ws/buell.htm

Rear shock is a custom Penske.
Fork springs were replaced along with all valving + machine work.
No clearance issues front or rear.
The ride is planted/compliant (ie - a little stiffer than stock but not racetrack-stiff)--no float, no bottoming, no wallowing, no wiggles, and no head shake.

There are much less expensive approaches to lowering a Uly but I also wanted the best suspension I could get for solo touring and twisty riding (no off-road). I'm elated with the results.

Thanks guys. Do you think we could stay on topic. It took exactly 3 posts before the original question was circumvented. Now it's about lowering of a Uly. Does every post migrate like this??? Is there any chance the original question will be answered.

I even said I wasn't interested in putting one on from another XB model and that is the very first response. Thanks but no thanks. At least Birdmanrh reads these posts. thanks

Thunderbox; nobody makes one yet. Trojan was working on a carbon fiber replacement for the center section, and Al at American Sport Bike was working on a complete one piece fender, but neither have been released.

So many projects, so little time......sigh. I've got so many half finished projects in work. I really need to wrap that one up. That fender is very close to getting sent out for final tooling, only needs a couple hours of attention, but its been that way for about 5 months now. I'll try to get to it this weekend.

I'll take one too if they don't want an arm and a leg for one. I won't pay 250.00
