Hi all,

Have had the Uly for a week now and love the thing. What a great bike. Question on the battery strength though. I ride the bike back and forth to work, about an half hour each way. Of course the fan is usually running at the end of each trip. Since the trip is short, does the battery get enough charging to stay at full or will I eventually run it down with the fan running after I shut it off?

Thanks

Kurt

I do about the same thing all week. 1/2 hour commute, shut it off and repeat. Been doing so for quite a while now and have never had a problem. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Enjoy the new bike!

My husband rides his Uly to work most everyday. He commute is about 14 miles, takes about 20 minutes. He currently has about 13,000 miles on the Uly and it will be 1 year old tomorrow. We have not replaced the battery yet. It shows no signs of needing replacement (knock on wood!). Like you, we live in the south, so the hot summer days make the fan run like crazy.

Ride it and enjoy it!

Thanks to everyone. Wasnt sure and thought I may need to get a battery tender for it. But if it is holding up for everyone else I will leave it be.

It's fine. That's what, a 68 watt stator now? Say you loose half that to lights and keeping the bike running (probably high). That still leaves 34 watts, available for 20 minutes, for the battery to charge. I doubt that fan uses more then 15 watts, so it could run for 2 hours after a 20 minute drive.

I don't think I ever heard mine run for more then 5 minutes.

The new dry cell batteries are a modern marvel. Takes a real beating. You can run them down, slam charge them, run them down, charge them again, put them away for the winter letting them freeze and use them again in the spring, no problem. And do that for 6-8 years. Its the only battery to get!

Do you have a source for such batteries that will fit a Buell?

Googled "dry cell battery for motorcycle" and here is a link.
http://www.odysseybatteries.com/
Here's the Buell specific link
http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc545mj.htm
ULY battery by my measurement is 3.5" thick, 6" wide and 5.5" tall.

This battery could fit with minor mod of battery holding bracket. The space is available from looking at empty area around stock battery. Surely something to think about once the stock battery craps out, but that might not be for a couple more years. Also depends on the price.

PC 545MJ Specs:

545 cranking amps for 5 seconds
495 cranking amps for 10 seconds
420 cranking amps for 20 seconds

Female brass terminal w/M6 SS bolt
With metal jacket
Length 7.00"
Width 3.37"
Height 5.17"
Weight 12.6 lbs
Odyssey design:

2 year full warranty
Rugged Drycell sealed design
Military grade
Vibration resistant
60% more starting power
Deep discharge reserve power
2 year storage life
8-12 year design life

I've bought plenty of stuff from these folks and am always impressed by both there prices and service.

Uly has a 300W charging system not a 68 watt. I think the fan uses a whole lot more than 15 watts. You should not have a problem riding the bike no matter how short of a ride you take.
