I just completed my 500 mile break-in. Finally! I can now ride the darn thing! For all you folks that complain about the Ulysses' quirks, I say STOP YOUR WHINING! What a great bike. What a pleasure to ride. Heat? What heat? Get Odie's blanket and the heat is gone. Fan noise? What fan noise? Get a decent sounding exhaust and you don't even notice it. And for those of you complaining about seat height? I say again, STOP YOUR WHINING! For years, I've envied you shorter guys that could fit on all the cool sport bikes. You ride the Gixxer's and Kawi's for miles and miles with no leg cramping. You can ride comfortably on the best Italy has to offer without physical pain. Now someone has finally built a bike that fits my 6'4" frame like a glove, is a blast to ride, and you complain about seat height? SCREW YOU! And the horse you rode in on . I'm lovin' this thing!

Wow Ray, couldn't have said it better. I'm at 5,500 miles, no problems except for a broken bag latch, which although it has a weak design, broke because I caught a inner strap buckle in the lid/bag lip. This bike is the best, one up - two up - dirt road - Stewarts Point, whatever. Maybe I'll see a few of y'all at Laguna tomorrow & Sunday, Cheers.

Glad you're lovin' your Uly because we're lovin' ours too.

But forums work best when enthusiasts bring forth product problems and hash them out. And the Uly has its share, it seems.

You have a whoppin' 500 mi on your bike and feel qualified to assess that those of us with breaking and faltering components on our machines with real time and miles are "whining"... I don't think "SCREW YOU" is appropriate for those of us wanting to solve the problems with our machines. We're supposed to be helping each other out here.

As much as I love this bike and want to work to make everything right, it definitely has more problems than the other new bikes I've owned...

That's a good point Xbimmer. I have 10,000 miles on this Buell did 23,000 on the last, but just like your wife as much as you love her a few improvements would make things just that much better. Speaking of your wife, can I get her phone number?

Yeah, joke was lame, sorry. My point was even things we hold near and dear to our heart only get better as we continue to build upon past success. If nothing ever changed for the better we may still be driving Model T's. Fun, great historically awesome, but had to change to stay on the edge.

Most wives believe the only thing that needs to change is us guys! Remember: They are ALWAYS right. Right?

I LOVE MY XB12X. the whining is the fan.

Well said! I have 10,000 miles on my Uly and ride it to work everyday. I have had my share of small troubles. I was one of the first to have the latch break on the saddle bags, I also was one of the first to have the license plate light cover break. I also had the dealer reset the TPS (At no charge by the way) to get it to idle better when cold and not ping when hot. My total expense to date because of the bike is less than $20 & I have never been stranded except for a flat tire. Buell dealt with the broken latch beautifully. The guys at work could not believe that the factory called me at the house and next day aired a new latch to the house so I had the bags ready for Daytona Trailer Week (I was the odd ball that actually rode the 600 miles). I think my experience with the Uly has been well above average because only minor issues have happened over the first 10,000 miles. The motor is running great and getting better fuel mileage than ever. I have gone from 44-48mpg to 46-50mpg topping the charts with a 59mpg run on the coast. So over all I give my Uly experience an A-.

Some problems to date I have not had. The kick stand is still the original with no problems. I have had no problems with the belt, also have an 06 belt on the M2, original replaced after 36,000 miles (give or take) and a trip to the drag strip. It did not break but the teeth stripped off about one-third around the belt. The M2 now has 44,000 miles so that means I have some 18,000 miles on 06 belts and 54,000 miles on Buell belts to date without being left stranded.

Some comparisons with some of the best manufacturers...

My Honda CB750 loved to eat batteries. In the two years and 24,000 miles I changed the battery once and the second was not very strong when I sold it. I had to replace the chain and sprockets at 20,000 miles because it was stretched and the sprockets damaged. The starter switch would get stuck and the head light would go out.

I had two Toyota Camrys. The isolators on the struts gave up the ghost at a cost of $400. A suspension piece is not under warranty even though Toyota admitted that Camrys have problems with the isolators. The temperature display on the mirror quit working. On my first Camry the transmission would pop out of second gear.

Honda had to recall Goldwings because of broken frames. Some with new Gixxers are having the same problem but no official confirmation from Suzuki.

BMW is having problems with the new GS1200 Luggage breaking off the bike dumping its contents while riding.

I have learned the motorcycle and now know how to close the bags without breaking the latch. I know the bike is cold natured so I start the bike let it idle a bit before going then keep the revs up for the first couple of miles. The replacement light cover has lasted longer then the first so maybe it will be okay. The factory may have over torqued the first one. The bike is tall, getting on the bike is the only chore for me and I am one of the shortest Uly riders I know of at 5'7". You do not have to flat foot to handle the bike, but you do need to get use to it. The low seat to me is more comfortable than the standard. I must not be the only one to think this because they redesigned the 07 seat and it is more like the low seat with no seams on the side. I've been up to 700+ mile away from home on my two Buells and they have always taken me home. The M2 has given me some problems in the past but it has always carried me home. The Uly is a generation ahead of the M2 in design and workmanship.

I understand Ray's rant and have to agree for the most part. I'd have skipped the "Screw You" stuff mind you. But the fact that I now have a quick street bike that fits my height (6'2") without compromising my ability to stand up when I stop is huge! I also have a Yamaha FJ1200 which until the Ully was the best fitting street bike that I'd ever owned. The FJ doesn't get to much riding time these days, go figure. So all my adult life I've lusted after bikes that caused me physical pain just because of my size. Now that there is a bike that fits, the munchkins come out of the wood work to whine about how it's to tall?! Jeez man, go get a bike that fits you then. Heck, go get one of those puppies that I've been lusting for. There are plenty of others around, even from Buell. In fact on any other Buell I feel like the proverbial monkey f***ing a football. But not on my Ully! So quit your whining! LOL

Wow!
i think it's funny how personal all this is getting.. When somebody "plunks down" 12k for a bike , they deserve to bitch a little.. no need to insult each other..
I have close to 7500k mi. on my uly since december 13th , minus one month for repairs from being wacked in jan and a month out on vacation..
had a few problems.. no kickstand failure yet...
we all dig the bike .. hell duck has had his share of mishaps .. he has the right to bitch a little... (i guess you are keeping the uly huh duck)
Most of us here seem to ride quite a bit..I plan on racking up another grand on the bike between now and thursday..
I take most comments here as valid.. i am glad this forum exists and happy to have a place to vent a bit among my peers...
still diggin the bike too...

I think he was talking about those who are whinning because they say the Uly is too tall for them. He didn't mean screw everybody.. After all Buell makes several models that will fit smaller people but you never here the tall ones complaining. I'm only 5'10" and have a 30" inseam. I have no complains about the Uly and so far I have traveled about 10000kms 2 up with no trouble at all. So those who can't live with the tall Uly don't whine here, we've heard it all before.

Hmmm. My two bikes are a Uly and a Blast, so I think I have the tallest and the shortest. I like them both, but I must admit the Uly fits a little better.

Please take my original post tongue-in-cheek, as it was intended.

I have a couple of Buells, the Lightning Long being the other. Like Jlnance, I'm loving them both.

I also have "several" other brands/models in the stable....each has its own unique issues....but it's all about the ride! Each has what it takes to put a grin on my face. And at the end of the day, that's what matters to me.
