So have any of you current owners tried throwing soft saddlebags over the Uly yet? My first plan was to just shell out the $700 for the OEM side cases and just use them on extended trips, but in the Live chat they recommended against removing the brackets once installed, plus it'll be a general nuisance. So I am thinking about saving some major cash (~$500) and going with some soft bags. But after looking at the pictures more closely I see that the rear grab bar wraps around the seat where the bags might hang... plus I am unfamiliar with how throw-over saddle bags work in general and am nervous about them swinging and getting caught up in the rear tire... I am certain that this can not be a problem else who would ever buy them but as I said am simply unfamiliar with how they work... Sooo has any one tried after market saddle bags on the Ulysses yet? And has anyone ever used these bags sold by Aerostich and can comment on their quality and how exactly they attach to the bike?  Thanks for any input on soft side saddle bags in general. chris | ||

I have a set of soft cases and used them on many long trips with my M2. I just removed the seat and hung the bags across there and put the seat back on. I made a bracket to prevent the bags from falling into the tire and attached it to the lic plate bracket. Bracket was shaped like [ looking from the top and make the arms as long as you need to support the inside of the bags. I just bought a Uly and the hard bags too. You will never find a soft bag that is 100% waterproof and there is nothing like getting to where you are going and having wet cloths. It is also invaluable to have luggage that will lock and that brings a certain amount of piece of mind too. You also have a place to put helmets and leather when you are doing some sight seeing. I highly recommend the hard original bags. |
