Here we go! Well at least here is the intro. I would first like to thank K12pilot and Pythonpaul for my beautiful goodies I have gotten over the last 2 days!!! Ok so my s1 is going to get the xB makeover which includes the translucent amber wheels, ebr slotted ztl race rotor, ztl caliper, line and res, and xb12s forks with upper and lower triples. I still need to order the rotor bolt kit, the adapter kit from redstang, tires, and a belt before all of the work starts. I just figured I would get y'all all worked up so I can make y'all wait a week or two until everything starts. Well here are some pics. By the way anyone know what belt I will need due to the bigger rear xB sprocket? Also I will have my old parts coming up for sale here soon which will be some nice pm wheels with like new tires and s1 forks and brake system!!!! So someone buy them.

It's gonna be a learning experience for me. I've read a lot of articles on doing the conversion and figured I would try it so I will post pics and maybe even make some helpful videos and put them on YouTube. My pain and suffering will be to y'all's gain if anyone else want to do it.

Awesome! Can't wait to watch!

You sticking with the S1 swingarm, or are you upgrading to the aluminum?

Well once I get it done I'm taking it to Houston and getting the new swing arm that fixes the recall

Looks promising!

And the translucent amber wheels do match perfectly with the seat!

I would not do the conversions till after you get the recalls done!!!! You can never tell if the dealer knows what to do with a stock bike let alone a custom.
Also what rear pulley do you have ? Do you know the gear ratio you dont want to kill you cruise speed.
You also need the rear brake mount machined and not shure what caliper?
The front conversion is pretty straight forward works nice with a front fork stand. Realize also you will reduce your stearing.
My thoughts are write it out. The entire process step by step you will be amazed tge things you think of. And then you have all your torque values and such right there.

That's right, I completely forgot you said about getting those recalls done. I sent a message to that dealership near me asking what the story is with recalls and never heard anything back, so I guess I'm gonna be sticking it out with my original shock for now. Someday in the distant future I'd love to do the opposite with my rear end, just to avoid all of the hassle with these undermounted shocks. I'd love to stick an xb swingarm and shock on my bike, but keep the stock rear wheel so it still matches my front end. Not sure if that's even an option, and it's something I wouldn't do until I had welding skills I'd trust my life with. I love the xb conversions people do on their bikes, but I don't dislike the original front end enough to pay to replace it.

I agree with S1, might be a good idea to wait on the modifications until you get the swingarm replaced. At the very least you could swap the front end, but I'd leave the rear as is until you get that replaced. You never know with some dealerships.

Screw the recalls!!!

They r just going to give you the run around anyway & waste your time.

Hang the shock on a wall, or use it!!

I have them on SEVERAL bikes!!

Put an aluminum swingarm on it.

I went through alot of thought doing my project giving the swingarm legnth etc so here is what I got for gearing info from Al at American Sport Bike . As far as figuring belt size I have an old belt cut in one spot that I can use.

Stock gearing is 61/27 which is a 2.26 ratio
Using stock rear xb gear is a 65/27 which is a 2.41 ratio = 6.6% shorter you will loose top end and it will be a wheelie monster. Plenty rideable though

If you use a 65/29 your ratio becomes a 2.24 which is very close to stock.

Wow tons of great info! Probably gonna say screw the recalls and just do the x1 swing arm. So what all is involved in doing it and what all will I need? The gear ratio isn't all that important to me as it will probably just be an around town bike. Brother in buells that seat is getting recovered or throbbing the trash. I'm thinking black with stitching to match the wheels.

Ask away just pm me and you will get my email.

X1 swing arm all you need is the swing arm, axle and adjusters. It bolts right in and since you will have the wheel off thats half the project

I was planning to do the same project this winter on my S1......then my bike trashed another set of exhaust hangers for the muffler. I really need to get that sorted first, then its on to the XB treatment. I'll be watching to see how it goes

Good luck

I'm sure you can recover the seat and make it look decent! I've seen a lot of different seat shapes that look pretty good. If you ever get that close to tossing it in the trash though, let me know and I'll give you my address haha.

As far as the swingarm, like S1 said, all you need is the axle and adjusting blocks. Some people use the original axle but it's a little longer so you need to throw a few washers in there. You'd need the new axle spacers to fit the XB wheel in the X1 swingarm, but you would need those to fit it in the steel swingarm anyway so no changes there.

S1... how far apart does the bike need to come to change the swingarm? Do you have to remove the isolators to get it out? I have a new set in a box to put on someday. I assume those are two projects that you just want to do at the same time.

The swingarm mounting block is different between the steelies and the aluminum. It's a small difference, but it's there. The mount for the aluminum swingarms has less material in one spot to allow the swingarm full movement up. The steel swingarm mount can easily be modified to allow the same movement.

You need to remove the mount block to change the swingarm. Good time to do the isolators if you feel you need to.

Don't trash the seat. They're worth a little bit of cash regardless of how bad it may look. It would not be a big deal to re-foam it and then recover it.

@Ralph So if you get the aluminum swingarm with the block it came with do you need to modify it still? Or will the block that comes with the aluminum swingarm not mount to the S1?
Thanks
(Not trying to thread jack, just trying to get some clarification on the procedure )
