I took off my shift linkage last week to install bronze bushings. When I did the lower heim joint fell out. It had a plastic ball socket that had deteriorated. I called Lance to see if I could get a replacement linkage and found them to be discontinued. I ended up sourcing a threaded helm joint similar to the top one. I cut half the loop that encircled the lower joint and clamped it in a vise. I was then able to drill a hole in line with the original pivot. Shortened the shaft even farther and tapped the hole. It should shift much better now.

Noice. My shifter was "reshaped" by route 128. The little peg on the end was sanded off smooth. I drilled it and tapped it 1/4X20 and screwed a little length of copper pipe with a cap screw. It was supposed to be a temporary fix but it's been there for 9 years The longer I own a bike, the more home depot and lowes it gets. |
