My XB12Ss starts then dies. After a few attempts, it starts and idles ok. It also seems to run a little rougher especially at lower rpms. The bike is mostly ridden on the weekends - so it sits most of the time. The check engine light does not stay on. The spark plugs were replaced (W/ OEM) Nov14. I checked the trouble shooting sections of the owners & factory manuals with no success. Thanks. |

Thanks for the quick reply. The fuel tank gets toped-off about every other week w/91 RON gas. I added 4 ounces of Gumout fuel injection cleaner yesterday. The battery was purchased last August and is connected to a battery maintainer. I performed a tps reset last weekend. And yes, it is a 2009 XBSs that I've owned for about a year and love to ride!!! |

Might do to check the Idle Air Control. If your crankcase is still vented to the airbox, the IAC may have become gummed up. IIRC, there is a 'how to' inspect and clean it somewhere on the site. Hope this helps, Dave |

Gabby & Ak, I'll clean the IAT this weekend along with checking the spark plugs & wires. I want to go on a ride before deciding to tackle the IAC. Thanks for the help, Rob |

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/634269.html I don't use the plumbers putty on the iac screws. I use a very light dab of antiseize on the screws. Since you will in the future do this again.Prevents galling of the tapped holes.I use dieletric grease on the O Ring. |

Gabby, Thanks for the link. I'll clean IAC along with the IAT this weekend. Do I lube the throttle body shaft? If yes, what type of lube? Dry? Thanks again, Rob |

Use throttle body aerosol cleaner open with throttle clean both sides using a clean under shirt rag etc...keep throttle open to allow evaporation 20 min .I stick a platic wedge in the throttle to keep it open. No lube used except pet maint manual on your cables |

Ak & Gabby, I cleaned the IAT, IAC, and throttle plate. All looked pretty good - The only area that looked gummed-up was the area below the throttle plate. I checked and cleaned the spark plugs. The front plug looked like it was running rich so I'm going to try the NGK Iridium plugs. The bike started on the first try and idled normally! I went for a ride and all is good! Thanks for your help, Rob |
