Will a caliper from an S3 fit on an S2. With the mounting bracket from the S3? Will the master cylinder have to be changed too? |

Are we talking Brembo S3 rear brakes ('97) or Nissin S3 rear brakes ('98-'02)? Brembo S3 components are all the same parts. So, just the rear caliper could be swapped out, minus bracket if needed/desired. As well as not needing to replace the master. If we're talking Nissin S3 rear brakes on an S2, I wouldn't expect anything to be interchangeable. Keep in mind, also, that later S3's ran DOT 4 instead of the DOT 5 used in S2's and other early tubers. If it is Nissin S3 rear brakes on an S2 that you're asking about, I would do the caliper, mounting bracket and master. It's possible that the Brembo master could supply 'enough' for the Nissin rear caliper, but (to me) it's an unknown. HTH, 1313 |

Eric- I have a Nissin S3 caliper on the rear on my S2. Had to update the mounting bracket also. Kept the master cylinder and just flushed the caliper real well before using it with dot5. It works, but I would rather rebuild my old caliper if I can ever find the right seals. Shane |

I got tired real fast with my stock rear brake so I got a double live piston caliper off a Ducati Monster and the matching master cylinder and put it on my S2. Good grief what an improvement!!! I had to fabricate a new mounting bracket out of steel plate, but it turned out fine and it was well worth the effort. The Ducati master cylinder was a direct bolt on without any modifications needed.

I didn't keep the pattern I made after finishing the bracket. It was a one off fab job since I didn't even know if it would work. The guy I bought the caliper and master cylinder off of told me it was off a 98 Monster but I never saw the bike so I can't verify that. I was going to rebuild the master cylinder before putting it on, but not knowing if the new setup would even work, I just bolted it on. It has never leaked in 2 years so I'm not going to bother rebuilding it. I believe it has a 12mm piston in it. I still need to have the rear flexible line lengthened about 4 inches so I can drop it down and run it along the swingarm like it should be. Maybe I'll take that to the hose shop this winter while the bike is idle.
