Pick your flavor and start typing. :)

I'll probably be in Washington during the first part of July unless my bike or my back don't make it that far. Are you going to Laguna Seca? If so I'll leave a beverage with your name on it at the establishment of your choice in "Blahview".

What you got to do is peel off the label and draw a map on the back showing where the bottle is, then just mail the label. If he doesn't show up in a week then you mail the bottle cap. :)

Found this interseting tidbit at the Castrol oil page:

Quote:

Harley's sports bike wing might be used as a test bed for the new engine, as it's known Buell is working on an eight-valve, liquid-cooled double overhead camshaft machine with insiders talking about a power output of 160PS. The company will retain its steel trellis frame but feature a sleek full fairing and top quality suspension and brake components.
We're also expecting a European version of the single cylinder Blast at Munich, but we're not getting very excited about it...

Very Interesting!! in a Col. Klink voice

But probably WRONG!!.

On Thursday I received an e-mail from someone who should know concerning the new Buell V-twin. It was on the track at VIR for testing. I have no idea what the engine configuration is. Does anybody here have any inside info? I have read rumors of a 1000cc air/oil cooled engine.

Here's Brad's insider info...

Quote:

Through various industry contacts we have information pointing to a new 1000cc Twin model for 2002.

1000cc engine based off of the Blast's short stroke engine (3.5 bore x 3.1 stroke), if the exact bore and stroke are used then the engine would displace 984cc. Word is that HD has decided to use a Fuelling designed 3 valve head design that was purchased from Fueling Advanced Technoligies (Jim Fueling) some time back. Some believe the engine would be able to spin upwards of around 8000 RPM, maybe not in emissions legal stock trim......Race Kitted? Will it be FI or Carb? My bet is DDFI. Horsepower, well depending on alot of things.... 100-120hp max, my bet is around 105-110. Being able to spin the motor with the 3 valve heads would probably net some HP, but lose some torque. 110hp/80ft/lbs at the crank??

::UPDATED:: Bodywork, this model will sport half fairings with a new racier look. Weight will be a key factor as to how well this model will perform for sure and word is that this model is VERY light! There is word of a perimeter frame and clip-on style bars instead of the tubular design.

Supposedly the current lineup will remain intact, how will it sell with the X1? We wonder if this is the right direction from Buell, why spend the R&D dollars, tooling, etc on a model that still won't compete with the current sport twins out there?

::UPDATED:: Looks as if the current platform will only be built for a few months, then Buell will convert the line to the new frame/platform. End of the line for the trellis frame??

Why not move forward and commit to a Superbike? HD is releasing a new model late this summer with the 60 degree liquid cooled OHC/4 valve engine that will make around 115hp as reported in Cycle World and elsewhere, why not Buell? Is this a stepping stone? HD is known for progressive model changes in the past, time will tell. Erik is certainly pro-air cooled, there are some new technologies on the horizon that will make 'other than water cooled' engines viable, no one ever said that water was the only thing to transfer heat with!

Stay tuned, more to come.

Plus Brad contends that HD will be debuting their water cooled cruiser this year. Hmmmm.

In exchange for this insider info; I expect everyone to buy something from our good sponsor SportTwin!

Ha! What a guy! We will see how good my info is come July 12th at the Dealer Show! I do have some pretty reliable sources, what makes me feel pretty confident is that I have verified most of this info from 3rd party sources (read vendors/engineers)against each other. We shall see....who knows Buell may pull a fast one on us all and pop an H2O model on us, but everything I've heard says no. The HD model I have verified as well, it just really ruffles my leathers to see HD get one before us Buellers!

Thanks for the plug Blake!

Not to be mean but "HD is known for progressive model changes in the past". You're kidding right? I think "mired in the inability to change" would be a touch more appropriate.
