Last week I removed my primary cover to replace the starter motor gasket. Once I had put everything back together the clutch would lever would not retract, it was just staying in place.
I removed the inspection cover and tried adjusting the screw connects to the mechanism that slots onto the clutch cable and adjustes the clutch cable but the lever is not moving as it should and when I try to engage gear it makes a slipping noise.

Any idea on what I need to do?

Did you adjust the clutch mechanism per the manual instructions?

Get a manual and do the clutch cable adjustment the way it outlines it.

^^ what he said.

Adjust the clutch exactly to the manual. I had a similar problem as you.

When you turn that little adjustment screw on the clutch don't bottom it. You just turn it until it starts to get hard to turn then back off a little.

I fixed it, if I adjusted the primary screw according to the manual the clutch was grabbing in gear. I backed it out further than the service manual says and it works fine now.

The thread pitch on those screws is really fine and it's all oiled up in there. I find it hard to feel when the point of first contact is.
