I just rode my new to me xb12x with factory heated grips. The throttle side is not working while the other side is really hot. Any ideas whats wrong? | ||

Remove your flyscreen, follow the wires coming from the grips to where they meet the control switch wires, and swap the connectors so the left grip is in where the right grip was. See if that fixes it, if not you have a broken connection somewhere on the wire going to the grip, or possibly in the grip itself. | ||

I think i know whats wrong after reading an archive thread about another uly with the same issue. On Sunday when I rode the bike home the left grip was so hot it actually left a blister. I recall the right grip was working bit was not as hot as the left. I was in the middle of nowhere and had to look for gas, iI was in the mountains and there was snow on the ground, had to turn around on the snow to get to the has station. The nike slipped from under me and hit the ground. I suffered a busted turn signal, a slightly grazed puck and the right handlebar end had the handguard grommet knocked off. Ive not check to see if it has exposed wires but someone on here had the same problem and just ordered a right heated grip. Is it normal for the left grip to be hotter than the right? | ||

It is possible the crash damaged it internally, but that is hard to say. Normally the right grip is hotter of the two, as the throttle is on a plastic tube while the left grip is more directly attached to the handle bar which acts as a heat sink. (Message edited by froggy on January 17, 2013) | ||

Froggy, My left grip is not working well at all; while the right is hot and toasty. Think the fix you posted above would work the other way around. The bike has bit the dust and landed on it's left side semi-hard. Knocked the puck off and trashed the turn signal. Could the heated grip be damaged? And how do I fix it? | ||

I wish I had posted the link while I was on that thread. It will turn up in a search. The owner had replaced the suspected broken grip and it worked again but he thought it was less hot than before. | ||

Froggy Im looking at an old thread of yours. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/403775.html What are those things in the end of your handlebars? How much are they and are they easy to fit? Im assuming it is to protect the handlebars? What can I fit to protect the heated grips and levers as I plan to use the bike off road? Sorry about the many questions, im new here and im loving the uly. | ||

Cartridge heaters (like the Polly heaters) inside the bars are just about indestructible. | ||

Today for 10 minutes I left the heated grips on level 1. The left side was hot and the right side wasnt on at all. Then for 5 minutes I left it on level 2. Left grip was thermo nuclear and the right was just slightly warm. Ive not had the chance to diagnose the fault yet but im now certain something is wrong. |
