I guess I haven't needed one in the 5 years I've had my uly....I was just curious. I know I've seen stabilizers on some of the other dual sport bikes an was curious if anyone had used it on their Uly...I guess I can see some practical applications

500 seems a bit steep (okay a lot steep) but seems to be the going price...

Do you know what they do, how they work and the reason for having one on a bike?

Yes, yes and yes....

Never had one on one of my bikes but I understand the concept and the applications. I can see where with (unless I'm really misjudging application here) where something like this could help you avoid a tank slapper...I can see where they could get in the way as well (depending on terrain) but I guess thats where adjustability comes in.

If you really want that GPR, get it through American Sport Bike instead of Ebay. Same price, but better service.

I have only ever used a steering damper on one street bike (a BMW F800ST, factory equipped), and I must say I liked it very much. The bike stayed completely composed on rough, twisty pavement that upsets other bikes I've owned and ridden.

I think the road conditions you travel combined with your riding style really determine whether or not you'll get your money's worth out of the damper. If you leave a crease in the seat more often than you like because the front starts twitching or the rear end tracks out, it may be worth the $. Otherwise, it is just a pretty farkle.

Good point Froggy...American Sport Bike has always been great to deal with.

Not sure that I really do want it, I was more in researching phase....

I should add that I had a dirt bike with a damper (added by previous owner), and I can't imagine not having one on a dirt bike now. I noticed that the dirt damper offered no resistance as the bars returned to neutral, but the OEM BMW one in contrast damped regardless of bar position. I think I would definitely want the former if dirt is you destination. There may be a adjustment for that on the GPR, but I don't know. The Scotts one was just built that way, and there was nothing I could adjust on the BMW one to achieve that. Just something to consider.

I run a GPR on my Firebolt race bike. Keeps most of the wiggles out that could lead to a tank slapper at speed.

I did buy it from American Sportbike. Excellent service as usual!

On the road you do not need one. If you do get a "wiggle" from the front end just back off the gas and/or dab the rear brake. Do not try to ride through it as you may get a slapper. Most of the time it caused by a bad suspension setup.

The steep head angle and short wheel base of the other XBs can make them a little "touchy" on the front end. The Uly has a longer wheel base. Are you having any problems with the handling?

I doubt the gpr can be installed on the Uly. Check that out.
