Does anyone know how this is done on the XB. It is something that I have always wondered about?

Many thanks

Do you mean for winter riding? I just stick a shop rag in the scoop.

What I am trying to find out is if the oil cooler is controlled via a thermostat in the normal way. If not I would question why.

It's not controlled via a thermostat or anything else because it's not necessary. Air cooled motors are designed to run with more temperature variation, so adding another component (cost/weight/something to break) isn't necessary.

Oil is simply constantly flowing through the cooler, as well as the rest of the engine/swingarm whenever it's running.

Thank you Mikef5000. That is what I suspected.

Ok so here is the thing that I am trying to sort out. On my 06 Uly even in 30C weather, standing in traffic, the fan going full blast all the time and the engine "cooking me" the oil cooler only ever got warm. That does not sound right to me. Maybe there was a fault. Who knows. The 06 bikes are "cookers" though.

That is odd, although, technically I'd say that means it's working. The outside edge of the cooler should be most effected by ambient temperature.

Or something could be wrong .

Something was wrong Mike, I know it but that is gone now anyway.

I had the 06 bikes problems sorted but the 2010 bike is a new breed and I need to learn more about it. This I will do, now I have the time and can ride again, over the next few weeks.
