My stock 97 M2 header is beginning to rust quite badly (thanks to living in San Francisco) so I want to go stainless... I'm seriously considering replacing it with the stock 97 S1 header.

I have a V&H SS2R slip-on... the elbow that connects the header and muffler is also rusting... If I go with the S1 header, I will also replace the elbow.

My questions: Are the two headers the same (besides the steel they're made with), and are there any problems that I might run into?

Thanks!

Cerbero, FYI;
The race header and muff are some sort of stainless alloy (inconel?)that does not rust. P/N's for your bike are 65396-96YA and 65398-96YB respectively. I see them quite frequently on ebay if your dealer no longer stocks them.
