My IAV actuator has failed (thanks BadWebers for the archives).

I have two questions. Is the IAV an emissions part? Making his a warranty fix? And, is there a way to shut off the CEL (jumping IAV wires?) while I wait for a replacement part?

I want the system to work and am not going to wire the valve open.

Never mind on the warranty question. I re-checked the owner's manual. Didn't realize that the noise control warranty was only 1 year.

Mark, I just had my exhaust valve actuator replaced under warranty. It's covered for 5 years or 18000'miles. My 08 had just under 12k when I took it in.

Mark,

I have a Drummer exhaust with no valve and a race ECM, which allows removal of the actuator, with no CE light. I may be able to send you mine for cheap.

Let me remove it and see if I get any warning lights.

The race ECM was designed for use with the race muffler...which was valve-less. The line of code that reads valve actuation is simply deleted in the race ECM.

I don't think the actuator motor is all that expensive, and any XB12 actuator will work. They're on eBay all the time. IIRC you want one from '07 or later, the newer ones have metal gears and the early ones were plastic.

My Uly's an '08 which should have had the improved servo. I'm well past warranty mileage so that will not work out. I'll check ebay and see what's available.

Mhevezi: Let me know. By Ratbuell's info, removing the servo should not cause a fault with your ECM.

My 08 XT had the plastic internal parts in the actuator. It failed at 3,025 miles. I think the original ones (06?)were steel but they cheapened them later on with plastic. The replacement part was riveted so I could not take it apart and look at it. (Am I the only person that takes new stuff apart to see how it works? ) I am thinking H-D is replacing the newer plastic geared parts with the older steel geared assemblies.

Somewhere on Badweb, I posted pics of mine when I replaced that part.

I have not looked inside the box yet. My bike is a Sep '07 build. The servo failed at 49,500 miles, so it was not a defective part, just not a long-life built part.

It is surprisingly hard to pull the valve activation cable but things seem to move quickly and smoothly.

Looking at those images, I have the older style servo. Opening the box, I have plastic gears but nothing appears amiss.
When I removed the idler and plugged the box in, I noted that the servos motor ran constantly with the ignition turned on.

Keep in mind that the plastic gears do not actually strip teeth, at least in mine they did not. There was another plastic piece that had deformed and was not holding a plastic cam as it should. The gears were fine.

Still working great at 9600 miles with new actuator installed at 3,025. Thanks.

Anyone have a lead on where I can buy a new interactive Muffler Actuator. I'm looking for one with the metal gears as opposed to the plastic. I know I can ride without this but lets face it, I have a stock muffler with a special valve for back pressure. I want to use it.
