On both my 2002 M2 and 1995 S2, from a dead stop first gear isn't engaged fully when the bike first starts moving and then it engages? Any insights into why this occurs and how to fix it?}} |

Yes the "clunk". The M2 has 20,500 miles and the S2 has 7500 miles. |

That's not really enough miles to have to worry about the grenade plate. Check your shifter linkages. My X1 gets cranky if they aren't lubed from time to time. One other thing about the linkages; the paint on the frame at the pivot point gets chewed up and can pinch the lever. I had to scrape the paint off of the frame on both the brake and shifter side to allow smooth movement. Took me a while to figure out that issue! I sanded the shoulder of the plastic bushings for clearance at first. But the root cause was that the frame paint got chewed up and took up too much room. |
