Bought three from Harley/Buell dealer for $6.48 ea. plus tax. I went to three Auto Zones and they don't have anything that fits. They have a search for Buell but this filter is NYA (not yet availible), Each store went through about 20 boxes of screen filters.

Well not exactly. In fact they had a hard time finding part #. It showed two filters but they called to find out which one was the "strainer". I'll have them in a few days. Bought extras just to have them

The plot thickens on my fuel pump strainer search. I ordered two new strainers from Harley/Buell. The part # for a 2008 Ulysses fuel pump strainer does not match the part they sent. Evidently Buell changed the strainer they use but not the part number. I've been told by two Buell Techs that you have to buy a new pump to get the strainer ($359). So I guess I'll buy a used pump if I can find one. Unless someone has another idea.

They don't look much alike, but will the new one fit on the pump inlet? If it'll fit, I'd use it. These strainers are pretty generic items; it wouldn't have to look like the old one to function like it. If the new one won't fit, take your fuel pump back to your auto parts stores and find one that will. Don't worry about matching the exact appearance of the original part.

The opening where it clips on pump is worlds apart. I've taken the pump to several parts stores and i can't find one that fits it. There's a 2008 XB pump on ebay I guess I'll buy.

I guess I should back up one step. HD may have just screwed up and sent you the wrong part. I'd first investigate with the parts guy and make sure.

The opening where it clips on pump is worlds apart.

I take it the opening in the filter is too big? Maybe you can find something to "sleeve" the pump connection with so it fits properly?

I'd definitely give somebody knowledgeable a call like Al at American Sport Bike before I spent money on a new pump. He may be able to help you out.

I did, on Harley's own parts blow-up on their computer software it shows the Fuel strainer and part # for an '08 Ulysses and it's incorrect. The Buell Techs their said they haven't been able to get one. On Americansportbike website they don't have a strainer for an '08 XB or later.

What was the part number of the wrong strainer you got?

Hey Froggy, I took the part back so i don't have the number but it's this strainer that matches the '08 XB strainer part #
http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/17518.html

I had a guy that trained Buell Techs @ MTI? that said there wasn't a strainer availible. I'm sure it's out here somewhere. I tried to look up the pump # under Walbro #PO1305AA to see if I could match a strainer that fit that pump but it's not listed under Walbro on their site.

I bought that exact same strainer(the top, more white one) for my 06 Uly from the HD dealer this summer. I plan to do a fuel pump redo this winter. Unless my HD parts guy got it wrong, I can verify that that is for the 06 fuel pump.

Can you back flush the old strainer and just re-use it? What led you to believe your strainer was bad/clogged or whatever? How many miles have you got on that strainer? I'm just very curious as to why you need another fuel strainer.

EG- he accidentally tore a hole in it with a drill bit while doing a repair to the threaded plug hole.

Perhaps he could repair the rip by sewing it up with dental floss or something similar.

It's hard to tell from the photos shown but maybe that orange rubber looking hookup part can be removed (pulled off) and end up showing a similar connection port as the new strainer. In other words, transfer the orange thingy from old strainer to new strainer????

Meh. Slap a piece of stainless steel mesh over the inlet to the fuel pump, and make sure you don't drop junk in the tank.

No more using stick to see if you have gas left. : )

Hughlysses: great minds think alike. i considered using small safety wire

Electraglider: I was hoping that would work but orange this doesn't pop off.

Reepicheep: A small screen or pantyhose would probably work. PANTYHOSE! I like that.

Froggy was asking what part # the strainer was that Harley had listed on their parts it's # P0806K.

Anything but stainless, and I'd worry about it eventually dissolving in the fuel.

Why would Stainless Steel dissolve in gasoline?

Sorry, I worded that poorly. I wouldn't worry about stainless, but I would worry about anything else.

Good news for me. I got my bike back together and running, no fuel leaks. I tried to find another fitting for drain plug that i could hook my aux. tank up to without it hitting swingarm and haven't found one yet. I'm just glad to have it back together and running. I may take it off and put a case on the back and use fuel bottles for "just in case".
