I was recently in an accident and was wondering if this piece was fixable. Its the bolt hole on the main frame.   | ||

yes and no you could try j b weld and rethreading the hole if you have the top piece. worth a shot.good luck to ya. | ||

yes - ...try and determine if the aluminum sub frame is bent - if so remove it from the bike and do your best to straighten it...JB weld the broken "boss" - fill the broken area ( including the "threaded hole") completely...drill out the JB weld ( letter "H" drill I think) to accept a smaller bolt (1/4-20) don't tap it - make it a thru hole. Use the smaller diameter bolt and make it long enough to put a self locking nut on the back side - get a piece of tubing (copper or even plastic) to make a bushing in the Sub frames hole so the new smaller bolt mounts the sub frame in the same position... mine has held since I brought her home from the salvage yard in Dec...it was broke in the same place. or you can try and find someone with a TIG welder to weld it for you - but...your Frame is also the gas tank - so...be very careful as to the amount of heat or the Arc that occurs during the welding process...you'll have to drill and tap the hole in that area again...and touch up the paint...good luck | ||

There are places that can weld aluminum. Do-it-yourself kits are also availible,not sure how good they will be. | ||

is that boss cast? looks like machined out of cast alum. not to say it can't be done but man you gotta have a great welder not to mention the tank coating will likely be damaged by the heat from welding. all in try the jb if that doesn't work then try a welder | ||

I would weld it. My buddy welded up a few of my cast aluminum motors including the replacement 1125r. It can be done and is way stronger then jb weld. |
