This could be a total stretch but with the extreme price of the 1190 at Whites Harley 48k, couldn't you view "Its little brother" ; ) the 2008 1125r at only 6k-9k a pretty good bargain for the amount of bike that you get?

In now way am I claiming the 1190 and 1125 are close in performance im saying for $40,000 less its not a bad bargain.

Also compare it to a Yamaha r6 or CBR 600 these bikes price out at roughly 6-8k for a 2008 or so, Wouldn't you consider the 2008 1125r still a good bargain for the same cash.

What yal think?

I say 2008 because its what I own, i know the 09+10's stator issues might make some people doubt it.

I have an O8 1125R I got for $5000.00 out the door with a 2 year warranty. I put just under $1000.00 in upgrades on it RT3 slip on, Erik Buell Racing ECU, and K&N filter.

For $6000.00 its not a bargain its a steal.

I dont know what else could beat the HP to dollar ratio.

$48k is nutz! I'd buy a bmw s1000rr and a whole lot of goodies with the other $32,000.

The concept of "limited edition" is apparently lost on some folks.

The 1125 is certainly a bargain.

I thought my Uly was a bargain at $10K. Still do.

The 1190 at $40k is a great bargain in my opinion and is clearly not being marketed towards the "normal" Buell Clientele. This is a Limited Edition (read special) Motorcycle that has to be produced to race the version of the 1190 that they want to run. I honestly don't understand all the nit-picking going on on this forum lately. Get out and ride people and if you can afford the "Limited Edition" 1190 than consider me a bit envious.

I think the price on the 1190RS is fine.

I can't afford one now, but if I could......

Look, you are getting a limited edition, 'best he can build' motorcycle.

Top notch components, carbon fiber out the ying-yang, hand built hot rod engine...

I was more emphasizing on the bargain that the 1125r is.

What will be lost is the value of your limited addition when they release a $16,000 1190r. I love my 1125cr, but there are better ways to spend $48k. If you can't see that, then you have to much money.

The ready to race ktm rc8r is $19,999usd and it came in 7th at ohio. Not saying the one racing in ohio was exactly like the one they sell for $20k, but for the other $20k that you'd spend on the Erik Buell Racing 1190rs, you could get two 1190 rc8r's! So if I were a racer, i'd be racing ktm's.

I paid $6500 for my 2008 with about 2k on it.

I'm with Blake. I paid $5k for my used Uly, and it would have been a steal at twice that price.

I'm no racer, so I wouldn't buy either, but the 2011 ktm rc8r (non race version) is a mere $16,499 and makes 172hp. And it looks a lot better than the initial rc8. I'll take a black and orange one please!

The KTM RC8R club racer is really attractive. $20k for a bike ready-to-go!

I've easily got that in my 1125r at this point, and it isn't within a country mile of that KTM.

Of course, I'm on my 2nd (and soon to be 3rd) motor, have lots of suspension and other upgrades, etc.

I hate communists.

>>> What will be lost is the value of your limited addition when they release a $16,000 1190r.

When will that be? How much is it worth to an American superbike enthusiast to be out riding the ONLY American superbike in production today and the lightest production superbike ever made?

>>> I love my 1125cr, but there are better ways to spend $48k.

I don't see the connection, sounds like a troll trying to throw off suspicion. Whaterver, your absolutist statement is baloney. A product, any product is worth exactly what folks are willing to pay for it, no more, no less. So what you are saying is that no motorcycle is worth $48K to you.

>>> If you can't see that, then you have to much money.

Yes comrade, whatever you and your communist buddies say. Are you going to vote for Obama again in 2012? :/

Why does Blake always come into a post and start name calling and insulting people? Next, he'll be placing us in concentration camps, I mean banning people for not agreeing with him.

LOL
BadWeb: "Is a 1125 still a good bargain?" to "I hate communists" in just 13 posts.

edited because I didn't count the OP the first time and also because I can already hear Blake saying "I didn't say 'I hate Obama' just communists"

In conclusion, the 1125r/cr is a great bargain. No your bike isn't worth more to someone because of the price of the 1190rs. The KTM 1190 rc8r race spec is a great bargain compared to the Buell 1190rs.

But in a reasonable response to the nay sayers...not communists since they'd all have us riding Urals (no offense to Ural fans)

If you took an RC8 added full carbon fiber bodywork, custom magnesium wheels, Ohlins Supsension, lightweight components and top-shelf race parts through-out then you'd probably be a lot closer to that 40K. Especially if you had all the work done by someone else.
Now there are people out there that do that.
Hell I'd be willing to bet there are people on this site that have sunk tens of thousands (over base cost) into their Buells. It's just easier to do that than drop it all at once.

Notpurple, read up on the rc8r race spec bike. No one needs magnesium wheels or Ohlins suspension to go racing. The bike is a bargain in comparison. It has forged aluminum rims and WP suspension.

Does the KTM race teams bike even have a different suspension than the one you can buy for $19,999? I don't know. Does it have different wheels? probably not. Did it beat the buell the first time out. yes, yes it did. It may lose to it from here on out, but it's still a bargain, imo.

If you really want ohlins suspension, then buy the street version of the rc8r for $16,499 and add your $4,000 worth of suspension. It's still a bargain compared to the buell 1190rs at $39,999(not comparing the carbon fiber version here). They both have a 1190cc v-twin that makes 170+hp.

Yeah the KTM race bike is an awesome deal. But it's race only, not street.
The 1190 isn't just the suspension, or just the wheels, ect. It's the whole package. It's quite easy to see it on par with the 40K Ducati 1198 Corsa.
I think that the only thing the Buell is laking on it's Ducati competition is electronics (traction control, abs, power modes) and of course brand recognition. But then the Erik Buell Racing is much more unique and exclusive. At a glance a 1198 Corsa could be mistaken for a plain 1198, there's no mistaking the 1190RS.

Hell, for me $17K for a new superbike is too much. I know that you get amazing performance for that in the current market. the fact that I can go buy a new superbike from Kawasaki, Ducati, BMW, or Aprilia with 160-180hp and the electronics to keep me from crashing it in the first turn is amazing. Unfortunately even though I could afford it, I can't justify it. But I'm not going to bitch that they're too expensive. They're not, they're just more than I'd want to spend on a bike.

The 1125cr was more than I wanted to spend until they started selling for $5-7K.

But we seem to be forgetting that the main cost/value with Erik Buell Racing is that these are all hand built bikes.
KTM and all the other big manufactures are able to keep costs and msrp down because they can produce large numbers quickly. This is true for all products not just motorcycles.

When you compare the 1190RS to other hand built bikes of similar quality (there aren't many) then you see that it is priced exactly right.

It has it's benefits and downfalls.
Completely automated process have consistance on their side; a robot will make the same weld everytime (unless it breaks). But a dedicated worker working on one bike at a time will pay more attention to what he's doing than a guy on an assembly line who's gotta keep up with the speed of the line.

It really falls down to the people doing the work. I'd rather have a assembly line bike than a hand-built Orange County Choppers bike.
