About a year and a half ago I almost got taken out by a drunk driver. Interesting experience to say the least. We had contact - but the bike didn't go down. He took off. I caught him, took his keys, got him out of the car, and called the cops. No english, no insurance, no ID, and no respect for life. To add insult to injury he got off easy - REALLY easy. Last night a friend new to riding and I were coming home (San Fernando Valley) from Santa Monica via Topanga Canyon. Some car behind us was driving erratically. She almost ran my friend over so he let her by. Then she almost ran me over and I waved her by. Well, being behind her I realized that she wasn't just reckless but drunk. Almost went head on with at least 3 cars 'cause she was veering into the other side of the road. Couldn't even tell you how many times she almost hit the side of the mountain or some other roadside objects. At the end of the twisties (Mulholland) is a stop light. We yanked her keys and called the cops. She got lucky. I guess drunk driving is a misdemeanor and a cop can't arrest someone for a misdemeanor if they didn't witness it. Cop said they'd park her car and give her a ride home. Guess she got off easy too. I usually try to just go about my life. I stopped trying or wanting to make the world a better place a long time ago but I just couldn't let this one go. Maybe it was because of my own bruch with a drunk. Dunno. Whatever. -Saro |

She got off easy this time but perhaps something more important came out of it? ...maybe it will be an awakening for her? ...I think you and your friend saved a life or two that night. Maybe in another mile...perhaps less...should could have careened into another vehicle loaded with a family. DAve |

Say What??? When I left CA a few short years ago, a DUI on a weekend meant you sat in the slammer until the Monday Mourning Hearing. Who changed that....Gray Davis? |

The cops didn't witness her driving. That was the problem - according to them. -Saro |

Hmmm...They didn't give her a sobriety test and at least a "Drunk in Public" citation? That used to be the drill down in Orange County. Regardless, Glad to hear you escaped any physical trauma on this misadventure. |

Down here in good old North Carolina they don't play around. One or more beers and it's an automatic DUI. Got to love my state, but then again we have to put up with the damn Mexicans that can't drive worth a crap. Eric |
