Dam@#$! Yesterday cold engine start after about a mile I hear whirring noise look down at IP and its blank but for dreaded SYSTEM VOLTAGE message went another mile and IP came back voltage was over 17 volts then came back down to normal slowly. Went to Dr. appointment hour and a half later riding home same thing all over again.
This morning same thing IP starts flashing (its not quite light out yet) tach drops to 0 when IP goes out then flashes some more then stays out tach stuck at 2000 but clock still works. No turn signals but headlight still working. This time IP stays out for three or so miles before everything starts working again the rest of the way to work.
So what do you think? Regulator, Alternator
I'm bummed have Deal's gap trip planned for September.
09 1125R with 3194 miles and no codes, has pump gas race ECM, charging system update.

Bad regulator. That's what I was afraid of, hope they're not on back order. Taking it to dealer in the morning.
Is it common that they come and go like this one is? When it acts up the alternator sounds like its putting out AC current like car alt. does when diodes are bad.
