Finished my tail light project. I now have 3-wire rear turn-signal stalks and red superbrightleds.com 1156 bulbs custom made with (4) 1/2w amber LED's around the edge. Red is hooked to my brake light modulator with a diode for isolation & a 3k ohm resistor that gives just enough current to make them comparable running lights. Bulbs are brighter in person than the video shows. http://s678.photobucket.com/albums/vv141/ronmold/U ly%20tail%20lights/?action=view¤t=UlyTailigh ts2.mp4 (Message edited by ronmold on July 06, 2010) |

Nice! I think mods like this really improve visibility. Ronmold certainly knows his electrical systems. I did the same thing with a module from Signal Dynamics. If memory serves, Ronmold helped troubleshoot some problems I had getting it to work, which I must say were not problems with the module, but with the instructions and my installation. Once I worked out those gremlins, however, I am very pleased. So, if you aren't knowledgeable enough to wire up your own solution, like Ronmold did, I can recommend the Signal Dynamics module. If you do, however, know that the module has to be connected to a SWITCHED power source!!!!! The instructions do NOT make that clear and it caused me a great deal of aggravation figuring that out. |

Maybe I should get some of those bulbs & make up some more of those custom amber/red LED bulbs, I like the 2-color look. They fit in the regular socket but have an extra wire coming out a hole drilled in the bottom of the bulb base. This wire gets hooked to the stock blinker wire and the "+" on the bulb socket now goes to the new wire that must be added into the stalk. I tried to fish a new 22ga. wire in but too tight. I cut the factory sheath off and re-heatshrinked it. Hard to replace the bulb in the field but it's unlikely it would ever need it. |

Ron, you've been a busy guy over there. Nice work! I still have to hook up that brake light modulator you sold me. hehehe. I've been busy with everything else non-motorcycle related this summer unfortunately. |

Hey Greg, a guy finally bought that old '06 from Wild Prairie. I was riding by there and saw it sitting outside and a guy next to it putting on a helmet. I turned around and talked to him for a bit and followed him home to Chaska to make sure he made it. (you know those uly's!). Another Buell rider to join us on that ride we need to take one of these days! |
