As some may notice, I have been posting more than usual lately. That's because I had my right knee replaced recently and am still stuck here in the house most of the time. I am starting to be able to get around a little bit more. I made my way down to the garage, yesterday, to check on the ol S3T, better know as the "Beast. I was able to work my way up onto the saddle but am still unable to place my foot on the footpeg without mucho pain. Right now, life consist of 6 hour segments; drop a hydocodone, excersise the knee/leg for about 2 hours, rest/sleep for 4. Then do it all over again.

Good morning Ferris : )

All,
Thanks for all the help. I ohmed out my plug wires and the front was twice the resistance of spec(7.5kohms versus 3.5k max). Replaced the plugs and the used the front wire from my 2000 and the bike started right up. As far as 6R versus 10R,according to the Buell Bulletin, the change from 6R to 10R plugs didnt happpen until mid way through 2000 and after they changed/added a temp sensor on the rear head and changed the ignition module. Thats why the 6R's are in there.
Anyway, thanks for all the input.

Sandblast, and Al,
Get with Don Casto for the new source of bolts (Castaloy?).

Al,
JW is right, DCBRAG.org is the place to go. Or get ahold of the Master Photographer out west there in the A.S.B.N group, otherwise known as Jack.

Bob,
Not all the post-2000 Buells have the head temp sensor. The 10R12's are for all Buells, not just the post-2000 ones (at least as far as I know and understand). Which Buell Bulletin are you referring to?

Sandblast -- let me add my statements to those fo V2win and others -- get the washer outa there, and now, please . . .. you can get the needed clearance by relieving either the bracket or the rocker cover . . . .

after years of slap-dashing my sleds together, I've drifted toward the "work on it like it's an aircraft" mode of wrenching . . .. much safe, and, guess what? I've been stranded far less often (I'll not be more specific least I tempt fate with hubris), and my knuckles ain't busted up near as much as they usta was . . . . .

there's alot of "left-of-center" engineering in your MaDeuece . . . follow the specs, or be prepared to clean up after the mess . . . . .

Mike,
I cant find it now. I just read it yesterday in one of the folders on this web site while I was trying to figure out what was wrong with my bike, but it noted plug, ignition and sensors changes on mid 2000 Cyclones and latter. It didnt mention any bikes prior to that but Ill check and try to find the bulletin number latter today.
Thanks

Bob,
Found it with a search:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/bulletins/Overheating.pdf

quote:

DEALER ACTION
NOTE
Use only 10R12 spark plugs as replacement spark plugs for all model year Buell motorcycles. The 6R12 spark plugs could not be superceded because they are still used on Harley-Davidson Sportster models.

Inform customers to use the new 10R12 spark plugs when replacing spark plugs on their Buell motorcycles and not to use the 6R12 plugs specified in the owner’s and service manuals.

My heart is crying.
I can't believe someone would do this to a White Lightning...

"This was not a Salvage bike and was in perfect running condition with less than 6000 miles on it when parted out.
...
Only after I took the bike apart did I realize that this bike is actually the first S1 White Lightning off the assembly line for sale to the public.

A sign of the times I'm afraid. If someone needs to sell one and can't get their price one way they'll often take a different path.

DaveGess,
use AltaVista's Babel fish translation website.
It converts everything you write, into whatever language you choose.

Big THANKS out to Brian @ Tilleys. I called him at 11:30 in need of a Blast. I had it home by 4:30. Hard to beat that deal and the service involved.

naw, he shouldn't . . .. market forces at work . . . .. I took a bath on my (admittedly rough) 66 fastback stang . . . .. could made several times what I did by parting it out, and would have, if the right buyer hadn't come along at the right time . . . . ..

if it was such a valuable scoot, intrinsically, he would have gotten more for it whole than in pieces . . . .

Kinda makes me sad.....but then again; not really.

It guys like him that made it possible for me built my S1W. While mine isn't truly an S1W (the motor is from a 98 S3T), it will only become more valuable as these guys part them out for whatever reason.

As for me, I couldn't be happier to own a Buell or two (or even 3 or 4).

Well, as long as the frame exists the bike lives. Too bad it won't have the original engine though.

Don`t do it: Starting to high speed lane splitting, with all attention only for the small corridor between the cars in front of you. Look in your mirror: There might be a faster lane splitter: Right behind you.
OK, I was the stupid one, and got pushed back in my lane by my angel guardian, just before a collision with a whispering shadow from behind.

When I bought my my 99 X1 (used) it was listed as 1999 X1 DOM and the title had the word DOM. My question is-does this just signify US DOMESTIC (vs foreign or CALIFORNIA MODEL) or is it some other designation? This was the only time I saw this as a designation on any ads.

I noticed on (some)parts lists that I just looked at the reference to DOM or HDI after the parts.

Just had a chat with my local dealer down here in South Australia.
They have recived and delivered 3 XB12's since October 2003. They are running a test ride ( Buell Australia demo bikes) 2 x XB9's and 2 x XB12's next week all 15 min sesions booked already for the day, I asked him about stock of new bikes he told me if I order a bike today I would be lucky to see it befor 2005. What gives ?.
Is it the factory cant keep up with demand on the XB's or is Oz just at the end of the food chain.

I conclude that there's nothing new in the motorcycle world. I think there are Italian closet-Buellers working there!

Hi everyone! I should be on my way to Laughlin as I type this but my little daughter has a fairly high fever, so we are staying home. However-
My washer in the mount idea has been scrapped- the rocker cover lightly filed with a round file, and the bolt (only 2 thousand miles on it what the hell) re-installed with Lock-tite (red), to 60 lbs, backed out 1 turn, and re-torqued to 60 lbs. I HAVE CLEARANCE!!!
Thank you everyone who stayed up late e-mailing me and posting here making sure my job was done right. You guys are the Sh**.
Also, now I have a couple saved hotel dollars and etc, so I called Al at American Sport Bike, and he hooked me up with some goodies. Everyone who has not shopped there please do, nicer people you just wont find. Please return now to regularly scheduled programing.
