I've got a chance to buy an 06 Uly for a pretty good price. I have ridden an XT and an 06 X with the low seat. The 06 I'm looking at has the stock seat, I know it will be too high. The X with the low seat was close to too tall and the XT didn't seem much lower. Now for the ?'s

1. Is there any seat lower than the 06 low? Stock or aftermarket.

2. Will I kill the sidestand if I stand on the peg to get on and off? I'm a fatty and the uly sidestand seems to be a little suspect.

I should probably wait to find an XT but I keep running across X's. I also like the X as I can chose bags that are different than stock.

Thanks for looking and I'm sorry for the ramble.

after a few rides the height difference becomes a non issue, as far a standing on the peg to get on/ off, i have done it with both my ulys and no problems

Thanks for the quick replies! I never tried an X before, thinking they were to high. After I rode one I was surprised how different they fell from an XT. The suspension seems much more supple to me. Should I replace the sidestand bolts with better ones, just to be safe?

Thanks again, Murf2

It took me some getting used to as I have an 07 with the 07 low seat. I am about 215 and I use the sidestand step on peg method sometimes but mostly I just karate kick (to clear bags and upright tail) to get on. I had an 04 XB and the sidestand bold sheered off and I found it tipped over in my garage. I believe they remedied that sidestand bolt problem in 2005 with the XB's so the Uly would never have a bad one then. My inseem is 30" so I'm on the balls of my feet but I have grown accustomed to the one foot on one foot off and I couldn't have a better bike!

I replaced the seat on my 06 with the factory low seat a just did swap the silver Uly rear spring for the blue one from a Lightning. I can touch the ground with both feet now and so far I haven't noticed a difference in Handling. The spring only lowers it about an inch but it helps. No other changes were needed. The kickstand and forks are fine.

I use the pegs to get on and off my '09 with no problems. The '09 has a larger foot to the side stand, that I am really glad that I have.
