Hi,

My cousin wants to buy a M2 cyclone, pref. 2002. He asked me what the MPG might be on this bike, as he commutes 70 miles a day. I have an Xb9 so my mileage experience is not useful.

Any input on highway MPG? Also, how reliable is the later model Cyclone for daily commutes.

Thanks much!

Brucelee,

I've seen 65 - 70 mpg imperial (54 - 58 mpg US) from my '98 S3 and '96 S1 using a 29 tooth gearbox pulley in combination with a 61 tooth wheel pulley. They both have T-Storm motors (the S1's been modified) that breath through a 40mm kehin carburetor. With the exception of the longer duration "Lightning" or Screamin' Eagle cams, (depending on whether you look in an H-D or Buell parts book) these motors are identical to the motor in an '02 M2 Cyclone. In fact, with the stock Cyclone cams, the M2 would probably get even better fuel mileage than what I've observed.

Considering their peak power capabilities, these are remarkably fuel efficient motors when ridden normally in routine traffic situations. A big plus, in my estimation.

Also gives them a terrific range, which is VERY nice when commuting or touring in unfamiliar territory. The S3 will easily top 250 miles before I need to start looking for fuel with reserve enough for another 40 miles or so. Nice bonus in an already entertaining motorcycle.

Brucelee,
I commute on my bike daily and last time I calculated I was getting 55mpg.

I get about 40-45 per with my 2000 M2.
I ride pretty hard.
About 50 per on the hiway at 75-80n MPH.

ditto on all the previsous posts on my Y2K model . .. . milage suffers (!) in extremely windy condistions (like the 20/30mph we've had round here lately) and when I get, ehm, enthusiastic . . . . . just about what you'd expect

YA, 42-45 regular fairly aggressive twisty road mpg, about 50 mpg two-up with the gal when we take our annual 3-4 day tour. I imagine if i rode solo like I do with her(sanely) i would get into the 50's. Reliability good, I was just left by the side of the road for the first time(4 1/2 years, 23,000 miles) friday, I lost the belt, it was due, it's the original!
