OK, since every damned piece of electronics we seem to buy these days comes with a USB cable anyway...I'm just gonna bite the bullet and build myself an ECMspy cable out of one. I need part numbers for the bike-end of the cable - from what I can tell on their webpage, it'll be three pin sockets and the connector body itself (and maybe the rubber seal, if it's not part of the connector). Anyone know a source or part numbers for these? |

I forget the part numbers, but you will need a serial usb cable. A standard usb cable with the end cut off will not work. |

Here is the cable that you need to use: http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs =OMDV80DKjRorBEBwmlJ4Pg%3D%3D |

OK Froggy...you win. I looked at the site before, realized I could handle building one, looked at the pictures (oooh...pretty - simple minds and small shiny objects, lol), and didn't read close enough to see the part numbers. Sucks that I can't use one of the dozens of cables I have laying around.....might as well just buy one already done if that's the case. |

If you want to use "standard" USB cable, get this http://www.parallax.com/Store/Accessories/Tools/ta bid/162/CategoryID/37/List/0/Level/a/ProductID/32/ Default.aspx?SortField=ProductName,ProductName then connect it to the Deutsch connector. If you'd like, I'll post some pics. |

Bluex-The cable from Mouser is about the same price as the parallax and comes enclosed and with 6' of cable. RatBuell - If you want one I can make it for you for cost of parts and shipping. About $30. |

So the Mouser link is for the part TTL-232R-5V as out of stock, anticipated delivery date is 6/25/10. So I clicked on their similar parts option after looking at the data sheet on the part... looks like the WE (TTL-232R-5V-WE) is in stock, it's pn# means it's just a "wire ended" instead of being in a connector. The AJ would be ending in a audio jack. Anyway there were plenty of the WE part in stock and that's really an easier option anyway, plus there's no little connector to dispose of. http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/FTDI/TTL-232R- 5V-WE/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMt4a%252bVKO2jOrfSrr7sUIV2jl0%2 52bZBasxjZs%3d I checked with a local cable shop first, but the closest they had was a 8" 4 wire cable, bummer. Checker Auto Parts / O'Rielly can order the 4-pin connector kit for me and have it in on Tues, (maybe Wed with the holiday). It is a MSD Ignition PN# 8181, I'm gonna check a performance shop, they may have them in stock. Thanks for starting this thread Joe, your timing is working great for me! While I don't have a lap-top I can plug in I think it will be useful if Brandon looses his again. |

The WE is the one I always use. It even has the ends stripped for you! Batts Racing is about the best place to buy the connector but I have also seen them on Amazon and EBay occasionally. You'll most likely pay a little more for the MSD. |

True B2L, they said $15 for the MSD, is there any difference between that and the Deutsch? |

Nope, although at Batts you can choose the type of pin (gold is available for more $)and you can get a socket with smaller diameter holes where the wires feed in the back of the connector so it has a better seal if you ride with the cable hooked up. |
