Hello All. My dad was out of the country for 15 months, and during that time he put his Uly in storage. The battery was removed and supposedly left on a charger while he was gone. The bike is out of storage now, I put the battery in, and the bike isn't starting. I removed the battery and put it on the charger overnight... When I put the battery on the bike, a fan turns on (key is out of ignition), but the other electrical components don't seem want to come on. I'm not to familiar with the Uly, as it's my dad's bike, but I couldn't find a mention of this in the service manual. Battery is back on charger, but any advice? Thanks | ||

Sounds like a bad ground connection somewhere. | ||

If everything worked when it was put in storage I would look around for wires that may have been chewed on by mice or something like that. | ||

I vote with Ourdee. How old is the battery? Anything over 4 years don't owe you anything. I assume Dad might be in the service? It's worth buying him a battery for his home coming! | ||

Got it tested, the technician said the "polarity is reversed." Positive is negative and negative is positive. Not sure how that happened...what is the warranty on these H-D batteries? | ||

I see that the bike is an 06, same as mine and mine is starting to show it's age and it never got a 15 mo vacation. Any shop should be able to give you a idea of the condition of the battery for free. I see you have a flatty, 45 or a big twin, I love flattys!  | ||

The battery is part of the standard 2 year unlimited mile warranty. If you bought the battery over the counter, they prorate it based on day of purchase. 15 months is probably out of warranty regardless. | ||

Sorry, the battery is NOT covered by the bike's 2 year warranty. The local HD dealer pointed out that language right on the battery's label when I had to replace mine last fall. Polarity reversion can happen when a battery goes totally flat. While the condition is usually fatal, some 'smart' chargers have the potential to fix the issue. Thanks for the advice all. Bobbuell, I'll post some pics of the H-D as soon as I can. She has a sidecar, which makes it pretty unique (I think). Her battery also died during the move  | ||

I recall some old man telling me that he revived batteries by running them dead, charge them up backwards, run them dead and charge them up correct. I have seen batteries blow up. Not worth tempting fate in my book. | ||

You can get AGM batteries for around $70 Its worth the price to not have problems. |
