55 mpg! How do you ride, Greg? I'm getting 40-42mpg on my new XT and I'm not riding it overly hard. Do you ease off the line and through the gears? Stay at 60-65 vs. 70-75? How do you do it? Ths.

I think the '06 does a little better than later models. Also, this ride was between 5,500 and 7,500 feet, and fuel mileage is better at altitude (less oxygen so less fuel used). Plus I'm relative small and light. And I was riding at a GPS-certified 70-75 mph most of the ride. My usual mileage is 45-55 mpg. I've occasionally made it past 200 miles before the fuel warning came on.

Oh, and I'm using the ECM from my original (S/N 044) Uly, which seems to run a little smoother. Maybe I taught it well.

I welded extensions onto the "tabs" of the HF unit (and dipped them in plastic tool-handle stuff) to fit the wide Uly wheels. I have to remove the drive pulley from the rear wheel.

A friend of mine just uses tire irons (plus bead-breaker), but the HF/Mojo-Lever setup wasn't that expensive, and I'm gettin' too old to do things the hard way.

BTW, I've always been frustrated at discarding used balance weights, so this time I hot-glued some used ones back on the wheel. I hope they're still there...lemme walk out to the parking lot...yep, all still there. Woo-hoo! I just found out a way to re-use balance weights.

What a great shot! You truly have the gift of teaching. Depending on whether road riding becomes my new thing (been a dirt guy for years and snowmobile) I can see changing these guys. I can do dirt bikes by hand but these look formidable. I worry about the rims. Maybe should not but they look so nice as virgins!

I think I see bolts into the floor. Dedicated motorcycle shop? You have a understanding wife, no doubt able to be supportive because you involve her in your thinking well. Thanks for taking the time.

I agree, Greg, very cool picture! I've noticed the same thing that Eulysses mentioned, the cool partnership and inclusiveness with your wife. I am fortunate to have the same. My wife is my best friend, and nothing could be better.

I'm impressed at your undertakings. Well done, and thanks for your good, informative posts.

Funny I bought my 06 over an 07 Breva 1100 because I figured Buell had a better chance of being around down the road.

A couple of things. Your mileage will go up the more miles you put on the bike. I bought an 06 Uly with 14k miles on it, and it got noticeably worse mileage than the 06 with 53k miles it was replacing. After an additional 10k miles, it was getting better mileage.

Some of these bikes get better mileage than others. It's not clear why.

I too get in the low 40s generally. I've seen bike get 53 though. It obviously gets the best mileage cruising at a constant speed. 70 mph is better mileage than 80. 4th gear gets some people better mileage than 5th. Try running 70mph in 4th gear and see what your mileage is.

Cold weather lowers your mileage.
