Well I went and picked up my '09 XB12X today from HD/Buell Lakeland. Very straightforward, it was a pleasure to work with those guys. They have a black XB12XP demo that they are putting on sale (I think for $9k) that looked really sweet. But my orange Uly was chomping at the bit to go home.

Road home over backroads to get some good break in miles. What a treat! Bike rides like a hopped up dirtbike. I love the way it soaks up rough pavement. Had to cross a grass median at one point, no issues. Riding through the state parks on the way home there were several ATV turnoffs I will have to go back and explore... unfortunately I did not have the time to dilly-dally. Hats off to whoever included the stock heated grips...

Issues: fuel pump fuse blew 70 miles downroad, hopefully someone can help (posted further details in technical forum). Also for the first 40 miles or I kept sliding forward in the seat, causing my pants to pinch my testes... finally found a decent position. Finally my right knee has a bit of a trick and doesn't like being bent over 90 degrees for long periods of time. I may try out the tall seat and give that a whirl...

Cheers,

- HJ

Welcome HJ! My 09 no issues and LOVE the thing. Yes, try the tall seat. I really like. Use your short one for town runs if you have to (I don't). Hopped up dirt bike...yes! PS...what did it go for may I ask? Ulys are getting rare.

Get the Palmer hiway pegs, nice to stretch out the legs.

Also consider bar risers - the 'boys' will appreciate it.

Ronmold: checked out Palmer's site... interesting stuff...

Particularly interested in the mount saver, as I do see that being an issue. Not sure I want to pay international postage for it though. Has anyone fashioned a homebrew mount saver?

Cheers,

- HJ

Congrats on the bike, I had some of the same ergonomic issues coming from forward controls, but got used to the new position after a few miles, and now find it really comfortable on long rides

Got the mount saver when I ordered the peg kit, shipping wasn't bad either.

So what's the verdict on the highway pegs ? Are they sturdy ? Would you buy them again ?

hey hungry, glad it went without a hitch up there and hope you enjoy the bike. as far as the legs go, i have a bit of a problem myself and at least with the xt i can dangle the legs. one day when things pick up as far as work goes, i'd like to get the highway pegs setup. i did get the windscreen brackets from palmer and they are top notch. along with a prototype windscreen that he sent me i don't get no more turbulence and noise from the stock ones.

Congrats on the '09 X, I have had my '09 XP for a couple of weeks now and I love it!
Only issue was some hard starts for a couple of mornings, bike would start and then shut off. Any ideas????

It can sense that you are not a cop.

Put another 120 miles or so on the bike with no more fuse issues. The local dealer is going to take a look at it on Tuesday.

While I stopped by there to make the appointment, they had some Buell goodies on the clearance table. Picked up a Uly City Shield for 1/2 price and a 2008 service manual for $20. Guessing not much changed between '08 and my early build '09... Also placed an order for the tall seat!

Cheers,

- HJ
