Hello everyone. I just got an 09 XT about a week ago. I have noticed the the "buell" decals on both sides of the airbox have "bubbles" in them an appear to look like they are going to delaminate. Plus with their sharp edges... I figure they are dirt collectors... so... my question... has anyone removed these decals? How aggressive is the adhesive? What did you use to take them off? Any paint issues? Your advice and experience would be much appreciated. | ||

My 06 has had the edges lifting since it was new; still there. Don't see any bubbles but no fear of them coming off. As for collecting dirt, there's so much dirt spread over the rest of it you'd never notice!  | ||

No big deal to remove if you wanted,heat them w/heat gun and pull off..I thought about getting the 2010 decals avail,more of a decal....Good luck! | ||

Hair dryer or heat gun will soften the adhesive. WD40 will dissolve and remove any residue. Paint issues? There's not a drop of paint ANYwhere on a Buell. Plastic is molded-in color; metal is powdercoat. | ||

Ratbuell... your comments about the "paint" made me smile... when I wrote my post I had to catch myself from asking how to remove the decals from the "gas tank"... so "paint" came just as naturally to me... every other motorcycle I have has a gas tank and has paint on it  Thank-you to you and Idaho for your posts. | ||

My 08 X also developed "bubbles" on both emblems shortly after purchase, seems to bother my riding buddies more than me as they all have to point out this flaw. I'm sure Froggy has posted part numbers numerous times, maybe I should order a pair to shut my friends up. Probably could be handled as a cosmetic defect and let warranty handle it also, really don't like crying to the dealer about this cheap stuff though. | ||

hair dryer and some fish wire, they come right off. I relocated mine to the frame. pretty damn easy. 1 beer per side on the level of difficulty. and maybe an arguement if the missus catches you using her hair dryer for it. | ||

... or the oven for baking on Duplicolor, had to hear about that the rest of the weekend... Just cover them up with a Buell Deluxe tankbag. With mine though the engine heat and weight of the tankbag started the stickers separating and sliding to the side. | ||

Nah, the Weber grill is for baking on hi-temp paint. Just turn the gas off before spraying the paint. Again...DAMHIK. There *may* have been adult beverages involved at the time though...just sayin'...  | ||

I just ignored it until my tank bag broke. Then I carefully peeled the sticker away from the adhesive base and repositioned it, it's adequate now and has stayed in place. Don't use the tank bag any more anyway since I moved to a less-than-crime-free part of the state... |
