I know you're right, but I'm a cheap SOB and I'm just fighting the inevitable...

...I would sell something to get one(a kidney, or a lot of blood, a yard sale.....there has to be something!).

Well there is my secret 2nd Amendment Tool Fund... that doesn't exist...

Already old enough they've reached rock bottom value, now on the way up as "Classics".

FS, one used kidney. Hard as a rock, but going CHEAP! Wife says something must go! Since I can't go any more, this extra one is no longer needed!

I had to run some errands after work yesterday - 90 degrees, and high humidity.
Got on I95, and long story short, back to the SSBS !

Played with it some - one time I kept trying to accelerate instead of backing off, and it would barely pull past 85 mph. I started to back off the throttle for an exit, then it seemed to run great. HARD on the gas, runs past 90 better than ever.

To put it mildly, this SSBS is really starting to irritate me.

I really felt the new ETS, plus everything else I did at the same time was the answer.

Anyone have a spare '06 or '07 ECU they want to get rid of ?????????

WOW! That gives me a hesitant feeling!

I am about to head out for another 70 mile run. I have done about 600 miles since fixing mine, no problems.....yet! The longest and best riding yet with out.....you know.

Do you have the RSS comfort kit yet? I don't know how much heat that would relieve to stop the FL/R/S.

JFYI, the four things that seem to have fixed mine; wiring repair, ETS, ECM(used), Comfort Kit.

I will know for sure this weekend. I am doing about a 350 mile pre-run this weekend over the mountains.

Comfort kit was added immediately after ETS, new exhaust valve actuator, new plugs, and new Magnecors.
Went through all the wiring to find problem areas, but didn't find anything obvious. Did a fair amount of preventative re-wrapping.

It had been fine for all local riding, but I hadn't put it to any distance/high temp day test. Was almost afraid to, I guess.

Hmmmmm.....maybe it does kill the ECM as far as regulating and managing heat control perimeters. I would send you my old ECM, but.....you know.

I can tell you the ECM alone was not the fix on mine. Still had to come back with the ETS, and did the comfort kit at that time.

If mine works well for the next couple of weeks, I would not be unwilling to plug my old ECM back in to try it. But I'm not messing with it until Buelltoberfest has passed!

Maybe this helps:

As I was stripping down the wiring under the airbox, the connector for the front injector jumped to me only by touching it. Not as the rear one, which needed more insistence. Now I've secured them.

Well I'm just prolonging the inevitable.

Buttoned up the bike yesterday after replacing the intake seals again this time with James Blues, cleaned up the throttle body, cleaned up the coil and wire connections, did some more wire insulating and securing, etc.

It was 102 deg when I took it for a ride and I left off the RSS. It was running GREAT and smooth, I was down in the flatlands in stop and go trying to get it hot. Then at a stop... it surged again.

It wasn't doing as often as it was a couple days ago, and I haven't seen FL/R/S since I wrapped the ETS wire, but more noticeable to me was the infrequent fan operation without the RSS in town in +100 heat. It shoulda been howling.

I guess I'll bite the bullet and get a new ETS. I hope that fixes everything because if it's the ECM I'm parking this thing...

Dean,

I feel your pain, and hope the ETS alone does it for you.

I have an '06 ECM on the way to try to improve my current "situation".

mine certainly feels like it is running hotter than in the past. I ran across this thread....
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/487317.html

I wonder if the pump might be wearing or general drop in oil pressure due to wear might be leading to less cooling efficiency? I checked my cooler, thought maybe it was clogged but seemed clear. I did check the ETS and it seemed ok as far as wiring condition and resistance measured (ok one point). Just wondering....

yeah I am not thrilled by the flash-skip either, my other bike is getting the miles of late... : (

Went out to the garage this morning to roll the Uly into the street and shoot it and burn it.

Thought I'd start it first for old times sake, damned thing cranked and cranked before catching. It's NEVER done that.

Its fate was sealed at that point but I decided to pull the codes first. Holy crap it threw a 14! First indication ever that something might be wrong with the ETS!

Geez, imagine that...

X, Mine did that one time somewhere along the line. Weird. It never did it again, threw codes for a lot of other things that were not bad.

Ken, I feel for you. I think I have some silver bullets left.....they fit a 30-30.

Update...

Saturday, 70 mile ride, temp over 100, flawless performance.

Sunday, 90-100, around town, barely rideable. Surging, lurching, and where the H is the fan?

Monday, glared at it in the garage... and changed the oil. That began a whole new series of issues.

My friggin Beemer is laughing at me from the corner of the garage now...

I received the ECM from Mike (Gamdh) and started rechecking things around the currently mounted ECM.
As was noted in another thread, I could see cracks in the end connector-to-ECM interfaces, where the seat touches the ECM.
My '07 has the front rub block, but there is evidence of the seat pan rubbing the back left corner of my ECM.
The original pan seems slightly bowed down, as if time and heat have warped it some. Add heat from riding hard in warm conditions, and I'm sure there is more interference to the ECM, especially when burdened with 225 pounds of me !
I might try spacing the rear mount of the ECM before trying anything else........

I was wondering, since the BAS was moved, and after having everything out of that tray, why not just move the ECM to a slightly different location within that area? The seat sits on the frame rails on the right and left, and the spacer blocks seem to only be there to keep the seat from breaking the ECM.

So far mine is still good.

Moving the ECM was my first thought, since there seems to be room to drop it some.
Before I go to that extent, I want to test this out some.

Vern -- compare your "new" ECM to your original one -- does your old one have the cracks when pushing the connectors down like the seat would ?

I could see on my seat where the ecm con. was rubbing so I took a grinder and dished the seat where it hits and put a bolt and nut on the rear ecm mount to stick above the ecm.No more rubbing.

I made a simple spacer to test it out, so I didn't have to cut out the seat base.
That WAS my first thought.
The OEM blocks are cheap, but the spacer is something I can do to test out these ideas, without having to call up somewhere and then wait for a part that will cost more to ship, than to buy !
Local dealer 90 miles away bites.

My original was rubbing and causing run problems back in it's early days. I got the '06 low seat and it came with another block, so I put it in.

I think they can also build up, and cause, a static discharge. I have had to fix some issues with plastic hoods on cars, they caused a static discharge to the distributor cap that would make it cut out intermittently. Back in the day they had a bulletin with a video under the hood. When it built up enough static from air passing over the hood it would strike, like a mini lightning bolt, to the center of the distributor cap. The engine would cut out for a second and recover.

Crossing my fingers...

Replaced the ETS today. Started it up and it settled into a nice lope. Let it idle for awhile until the fan came on and took it for a short ride.

It was almost 90 out and the fan was cycling as normal in traffic, .

No surging at stops.

Smoooth acceleration and no stumbling.

I may be happy with my Uly again! Now to figure out where my 2.5qts of new oil went...

The most perfect running Uly I have ever been on! So far it is better than it was from new.
