Mirroring this here at the reccommendation of a poster at the advforum I troll.

Skinny: Accepted delivery of the bike 15 August. Started up fine when the man rode it down my driveway.

Since then, I have tried to start up up twice.
First time was last friday, when my 'dumber' side thought it would be a good idea to go try and ride. I stalled it once, got to excited with the throttle, and laid it down on the right side. My better half got the better of me, and I picked it up and parked it with no other issues.

Since than, I went through the MSF course, have my drivers license, and have a better idea on what I need to do.

Tried to go out and start it up this afternoon. Turned the key, checked it in nuetral, pulled in the clutch (all those fine things the msf course taught me), and placed the Engine cut off switch in Run.

Got to the point, hit the Enginee Start button, and was rewarded with a ratcheting chuck chuck as the bike failed to turn over. Looking for input as to what I did wrong, and if I have screwed up my bike in idiocy.

You have a dead battery. Get it on a charger, and leave it on a battery tender if it is going to stay parked more than a couple weeks.

Last time I heard a "ratcheting chuck chuck", it was coming from the started because the battery didn't have enough charge to turn the engine over. But, everyones ratcheting chuck chuck can be different.

Check the battery.

Deltran Jr. battery tender. Mine's on it whenever not in use. Also get yourself a voltage indicator. I have the LED, one light/2 colors, and it stays on, telling you if everything is OK or if there are pending problems (ie: dead battery or continual discharge).

Simple answer to my stupidity it seems. Hit autozone this evening and grabbed a "Schumacher Battery Maintainer."

Keep an eye on it, this shouldn't happen. Did you leave the headlight on?

Yes, yes I did. Noticed it after getting burgers the other day. Turned the key to far trying to lock the handlebar.

Still glad to have the battery tender though.
