> It is good to see a manufacturer use customer feedback to improve their products.

And it's quite nice that they make these improvements so easy to retrofit. I really appreciate that Buell packaged the upgrades into a single kit so we don't have to go scrounging around for individual parts.

Can I buy just the RSS scoop? Does anyone have a part number?

Here's a list of the parts (posted by Court in another thread). Note there's both an inner and outter RSS ("shroud"):

I imagine you can buy just the RSS, but why would you want to? The whole kit is only $120, and you might find out you make yourself hotter if you only install the RSS.

So, who's pulled the trigger on getting a kit?

Also, I'm more interested in the fuel injection calibration.
Anyone get this done yet? If so, what did the dealer charge?

My kit is on it's way from Chicago. I'm off for a trip to the Canadian Maritimes, ME, NH, VT and Upstate NY so it will be two weeks before I get to install it. $104.96 to my door....

Tginnh- A lot of Uly riders here have already ordered the kits; I ordered mine last Wednesday.

Here's what the page at Buell.com says about the ECM recalibration:

Although not required, to maximize the benefit from the rider comfort kit, a new electronic fuel injection calibration is available for installation. See your local dealer for detailed instructions. Note: The new calibration uses a combined vehicle speed and engine temperature based strategy to optimize the cooling effects of the motorcycle's fan while minimizing the fan's run time.

An Anony has also posted the recalibration has NO affect on power. Based on that, I'd say it doesn't change the fueling at all; it just changes the fan control logic.

These are in a thread on the XB forum; that's probably why you missed them.

Would anyone be willing to post the installation instructions? (NVM, I see the instructions in Mideon's Picassa post). Any ideas on how many hours to do the install?

If anyone receives their kit and embarks on installing it themselves, please post their difficulty rating. I'd like to give it a shot but if it is too hard, I amy ask the dealer to do it. Ultimately, I am cheap. I wound up installing my top and side cases and frame after I got the dealer estimate. I figure the dealer install will be almost as much as the kit itself.

Based on the instructions, it doesn't look difficult, just time-consuming (at least the fan duct part). "Remove seat, remove everything under the seat, install duct, replace everything under the seat. Remove existing right side scoop; install new inner and outer right side scoops. Install header shield." I'll be installing mine.

It's not a quick thing for sure. I would say you are looking at hour plus for break down installation and all. You have to trim the transmission vent hose, remove the fuse block and battery and trunk pans and rerouting the O2 wiring harness. Yeah.....I'm going to help the economy and have Gateway put mine on!

Mideon,
When they screw it up and parts start falling off on the way home, please don't say you weren't warned. It really can't be that hard to accomplish yourself. Just remember that some guy is going to have to read those instructions just like you have and try to figure out how to install that comfort kit. You're bike is the guinea pig. If you are cool with that then expect the worst. And they will probably charge you a "minimum" of one hour of labor and probably more. That is an expensive comfort kit.

I hear you Electra! Actually my guys are really good and they do right by me on what they charge. I'll have the ECM reflash at the same time. Also while they have my bike I'll get a free loaner for the day : ) So they get to work and I get to play on an 1125! : )

Gateway gave me a 3 year full maintenance plan on my bike when I got it. (got it in Feb during their crazy deal days) Covers everything down to changing the oil. was nice when I took it in the other week and had the 2500 mile work down and a synthetic oil change and the bill came back as $0

My dealership promised a free loaner program when I bought my Uly in December 06. Somehow, it's never come about.

Has anyone verified that the EFI recalibration CAN/CANNOT be applied to an '06 Uly?

Since the Comfort kit retrofits back to '06 models, one can only hope the recalibration note applies as well.

I know the programing is different from year to year, but is the ECM processor itself different? I'm just thinking that unless it made some leap in processing power in 08, the update should work for any of them. It would only take a couple of lines of logic to include bike speed in the fan control.

DDFI-II and DDFI-III are different "operating systems", so to speak. XP and Vista, if you will.

Now, whether the processors are the same (hardware) or not...I have no idea. My bet is (and I haven't looked yet, nor had time to have an actual tech take a look) there is an update (i.e. new code) in Digital Tech for each application (06/07 49 state, 06/07 Cali, 08/09/10 49...etc) and DT will determine which is required based on what vehicle it identifies itself connected to.

I just wanna see if it throws a fit when I try to connect it to my race ecm : ) I'd LOVE to have the speed reference on mine...but I doubt they have code for that one.

RB- thanks for that info, nice explanation. I'm sure one of our ECMspy gurus will figure out how to cobble the code to let you do it.

I think the possibility of losing control of your ECM may exist by accepting future programs from the mothership.

Wait, let me make sure my tinfoil hat is on straight when I say that. OK, better.

Remember how we were just getting a handle on 08 ECMs, then once the mother ship reflashed them we could no longer communicate with the 08s.
