will the XB's get totally re done?
or re-engined?
are we ready for a Rotax CityX?
if the new engine is a maintenance --i'll be riding the "old" XB's till they dry up.like the air cooled vw's.

if its Ron Popeil-like--set it and forget it--i'll be all over it like a duck on a junebug !!

Funny, my 1125 is the same for insurance as my 1203 was, you should look at the new blast, insurance would be cheap I think.

End of discussion *pointing finger at you* I wont stand for this kind of talk.

It's never to early to speculate on 2011... I suppose we were about overdue for a speculating thread in order to enable speculation on the 2011 models. Anybody care to speculate?

I expect we'll see more hints of the new machines as Buell clevery tries to disguise their test mules around East Troy and the Southern Wisconsin region.

Sometimes if you google carefully, you CAN get some hints on their site...

"...a lot of the roads i ride 100hp is enough..."
I went for my first scratching ride in ages last weekend and had exactly this thought. I didn't hit the limiter or have the throttle pinned on the X1, but still very much enjoying myself : ). I like the 1125CR but think it would be wasted on me... a 725 or 825CR with around 100hp would be pretty cool. Or maybe an XB12SS or STT...

Think about it; HD owns Buell. HD HAS to sell water cooled bikes due to the EPA mandates. Vrod sales are in the shitter.

What would you do if you were at the top of HD?

Is this part of CARB compliance or something. I wasn't aware of that. If true that would explain alot.

What would make a liquid cooled bike pass emissions better than an air cooled one?
Is there data to back this up?
I can't find anything to back that statement up.

thats what the old dude at Granite Mountain HD was saying back last year when I had my headlights in for the recall. He was saying that the V-Rod power plant will be standard on the HD models in the near coming years due to EPA crackdowns. I don't exactly know what or who his source was, but would make perfectly good sense to put that in the bigger touring bikes, they wouldn't "have" to have the Screaming Eagle package to pull the weight some of them are tortured with.

and no Glitch i don't think there is a study that proves lower emissions on water verses air cooled...BMW has been very successful with both technologies.

The notion that the old dude at the dealership has any insight whatsoever into current emissions standards is extremely far fetched.

HD HAS to sell water cooled bikes due to the EPA mandates. Vrod sales are in the shitter.

What would you do if you were at the top of HD?

Get my facts straight. But that's just me.

I want STT/Ss suspension on my CityX in the worst way. I have all the part numbers that it would take to make happen, but I would have to have a custom shock made and I think that is the deal breaker because it would be a lot of trial and error to get it right.

I just love the idea of nice cushy strafing, a slightly longer wheelbase with the quicker steering of the Short frame. Kinda like old tuber geometry.

Liquid cooled engines can regulate heat better, which in direct relation means the exhaust gases can be controlled better ( especially knox )

I'd say without a doubt liquid cooled engines have the ability to have less pollution.

Now do they build them to actually have less??? Shit if I know. But they have more ability for reduced gases then an air cooled could ever have.

But ill ride my air cooled beast til the wheels fall off! And when they do fall off I'll buy another set and ride her some more :-)

Water cooled motors are quieter, allowing the exhaust to be louder for more power and without enormous mufflers. EPA has noise regs, too.

It's not at all that simple.

Water cooled motors are quieter
Where does this come from? There is no way a generalization like that can be made.

The water jacket around the engine DEFINITELY muffles the mechanical noise. Since you don't NEED the fins for dispersing heat to the air, you don't have that potential source of harmonic vibration (which can cause a "ringing" sound unless you dampen them somehow).

I realize that a lot of manufacturers leave "cosmetic" fins on their water-cooled engines but they aren't necessary.

I'm going to ignore the pissing contest about emissions and get back on the subject at hand.

I would love for Buell to produce a new engine for the XB that is lighter, smaller and more powerful. Can it be done? I don't know. I'm not an engineer. But they were able to get a lot more HP out of the XBRR engine so maybe there can be some lessons taken from that engine. 115HP at the crank would be great. That's about a 12% increase over the current XB12 engine.

I heard from a few different folks that 10 was to be the last year for the XB line. I'm sure, if that was true, this economy may prevent anything brand new from appearing anytime soon. Especially if its air-cooled and used a HD power plant.

I spoke with a Marketing manager for Harley the week before the dealer meeting, he said that HD has had to scrap plans for new projects that were 1-3 years out.
