I met a guy today who lives down the street from me. Turns out he was on a broken down 2007 Firebolt with a Micron exhaust. He is not very internet savvy from what I can tell and has no idea about BadWeb, ECM Spy, or tuning a Buell. Seems like his troubles are stemming from his Micron exhaust. I offered my help and told him I would check with everyone here for advice.
He bought the bike new and had the exhaust installed by a local dealer. He claims the bike didn't run correct from day one and now after numerous trips to the dealer the bike is dead. It will start and run for about 5 seconds before stalling out. I think the first few steps would be to install new plugs, reflash the ECM, and reset the tps. Any other advice would be appreciated.

I think you have the right idea. Definitely start with fresh plugs.

Since you don't know if the dealer made any changes to the ECM or not, it's a judgement call on the ECM reflash.

For the TPS reset you are obviously going to have to reset it with the engine cold to start with. This should allow it to run more than the 5 seconds, but it will start running like crud as it warms up. That is when you do another TPS reset. Rinse and repeat. The last Buell I had to resurrect from a bad/cold TPS reset, it took about 5 resets to get the bike warmed up enough to get it right.

Yea the Micron needs serious map overhaul. I bought a map from American Sport Bike, night and day difference.

Apparently the dealer did "dyno" tune the bike. Anyone know how I could get a stock 2007 map just to be on the safe side? Oh, he did have a Direct Link USB key thing. Will ECM Spy still work if the bike has been tuned that way?

Thanks everyone,
I worked through the bike tonight and now it runs great. Changed plugs, reset TPS, reset AFV, and checked and re-checked. That Micron exhaust is mean. I fattened up the maps and all is good. Told my neighbor to keep an eye on it and let me know if anything comes up. Now I just wish I had a 2007 so I could ECMSpy my own bike. Anyone have a final word on whether or not the 08+ bikes can be tuned with ECMSpy?

Yes and no. Yes they can be tuned, but not with the same ease as the DDFI2 bikes. The new bikes you need to cheat and edit the hex values instead of the map directly.
