I need some help from all you S2 owners that have the Signature Series documentation.

Please send me the Build Dates from the neck of the frame (month and year) and also from the Documentation itself (month, day and year).

I am sure there is a significant amount of time difference between the earlier builds. (i.e. Neck date and Build date are off by months) which may be due to the new Buell facility being built around the time of the S2 builds.

After talking with 1313 I understand the problems that can be associated with stamping a frame BEFORE building the bike.

I may add another column to the spreadsheet but am not sure right now. The neck build date is somewhat moot.

Send info to f_skinner@yahoo.com or just PM me. TIA, Frank

I would like to get my documnetation but I don't know who the original owner was. Does anyone have an idea how to find out?

You in the same boat as a lot of us. Using the VIN maybe someone on here that works at a dealer can run it and tell you what dealership originally sold the bike. If your lucky you will be close to the dealer and maybe they can contact the person for you. I do not think they will give you a name or address for legal reasons.

You could try contacting the person that you bought it from and maybe they have a old file of a name and location. If you can get it to a county in a state you should be able to search public records if they own a home.

I did just that. I found the dealer and name of the original owner. I found his address and sent him a letter. After a few months he told me that he was the original owner but never got the documentation. Odds are the dealership tossed it, sold it or gave it to someone else.

Bummer!

I have one with and one without. It does not diminish the ownership of the bikes and I do not think anyone makes a decision to buy one or not based on the documentation.

The Owners list originally started as a way to reunite the bikes with the covers. It has worked but it has evolved a bit.

As a reply to:
" the dealership tossed it, sold it or gave it to someone else."

The sad truth is that apparently (unless I have misunderstood) the signature series stuff was sent to the first owner of record and NOT the dealership...

Here's how I know this...
My Dad was the dealer in Myrtle Beach, SC from 1972 until 1998. We have a 96' S2T that was still in dealership inventory at the time of my Dad's sale in 1998. That bike is a 1996 Blue S2T. It currently has 136 miles and the last 4 of the VIN are 0152. It was never registered. We still have the original paperwork (Certificate of Origin) from the factory. Since I have now gotten back into motorcycles after being
burnt out on them for most of my life (it happens when you're a dealer's kid),I have taken a particular interest in this bike. It's a perfect and untouched original having sat in a heated and air conditioned garage it's whole life.

Anyway, we never received the signature series stuff. I talked to Court about it via e-mail and need to bug him some more about it sometime soon (just haven't had a chance to send the e-mail). But, I do know for a fact that had the stuff come to the dealership originally that I would have it in my possession now (I dearly wish it was). LOL!

Marlaina, I am not sure. I have heard both. I always thought that for the first S2s the stuff was sent to the dealers then afterwards to the owners that registered the bikes.

What I do know is that I have seen one dealership selling the cover (the cover only) on a sale rack. Whether they actually sold the bike I do not know. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Regardless, trying to find it is an exercise in futility as you probably already know.

Every so often a cover will show up on ebay. I bought one off of craigslist and was able to track down the owner and sent it to him. Hopefully if he sells the bike he will give it to the new owner.

Nothing ever went to a dealer, they went to registered owners.

The story I am getting . . . . and I just tracked down the guy (now in charge at York) who administered the program. . . is that all the unclaimed ones were tossed.

I, personally, find that tough to believe.

?????? OMG!

I bought mine from Whites HD in Lebanon PA. I have contacted them and they said when they changed computer systems they didn't transfer any of the old info to the new system. I'm not sure how true it is but I have to take there word. I know I'm the second owner. I would like to send the original owner a letter like you Frank but getting his or here info hasn't happened as of yet. I work for JD dealer and with a SN# I can find any original owners name and address in there computer so I'm not sure if HD has the same style setup. I asked Whites if they had it when the customer traded it in but they said they didn't have it so I'm left with tring to contact the original owner. I don't want the paper work for resale just to see what day it was completed. I wouldn't sell it unless I really had no choice.

SG, that is unfortunate. I sent a letter to Buell/HD and I got a canned answer. I will say their response was quick but they did not answer any questions.

If the owners list was more complete we could mostly likely guess the build date. I am having second thoughts about the usefulness of the list at all. It has too many holes in it and as an independent effort, on one web site, it will never be anything more than what it is right now.

I, like you, would rather have the documentation and do not really care about the cover. I think the fact that they took the time to document all that information for each bike and then offer it to the owners is amazing. It is like a consolidated build sheet.

Sitting in a landfill! I hope that is not true.

I'm with you guys on this one... The S2T we have will probably never be sold. I'd just like to have the "stuff" that went with it. I'm a true enthusiast so I like documentation and such. Plus, heck, it would just be cool to have!

ANYWAY... It is really sad to think that anyone would have tossed the unclaimed covers and such. But, unfortunately, I've known for a long time that the factory sometimes does crazy stuff.

I'll hope that someone took all of the "extras" home with them and they're sitting in someone's basement or garage just waiting to be discovered.

Is this material something that could be created as a "reproduction" off of someones originals? Something done by the owners and not Buell. Would it have the same meaning?

>>> I've known for a long time that the factory sometimes does crazy stuff.

The FACTORY would NEVER have done it. There were some folks from HD who were assigned Buell duty and couldn't wait till their "sentence" ended. These were the same folks that tried to toss the remaining PASSION posters and cases of Buell-Snap-On stuff from the Buell Race of Champions.

Fortunately . . . I happened to be standing near the dumpster in those instances.

I'm going to do some checking.

Sorry, Court.

I should have clarified. By "factory" I meant the H-D folks and NOT the Buell people. Obviously, I have almost no experience with you guys that were at Buell. I was speaking about experiences with the Harley people at the Harley factory.

For what it's worth, I have the actual *letter* (as well as the card, case, and cover) that went to the original owner of my '95. Frank - let me know, and I can scan/email a copy to you if you haven't seen one...but it's addressed to the owner, not a dealership.

Court, if you make progress please be aware that many owners have sent me their VIN and email (I do not publish that info in the spreadsheet) so it will be easy to track down owners.

Of course a fair amount of people have NOT sent their VIN. I sure would like to hold them hostage with something shiny with their bike info on it.
