VDSTS cable will not work with ECMSPY. The VDSTS cable has a "dongle" in it to work with the software. ECMSPY does not need the dongle.

Thanks.i take i can not remove the ""dongle"" and that i will have to buy another cable, apart from remapping the EMCspy seems to have little advantage over the VDSTS,

Buelli,
There was a gent selling the EMCSpy cable and the trouble code cable on here and ADV rider a few weeks ago. He still has some cables and I have his email.
I order the cables and they are top notch. He was a good person to do business with.

I believe that ECMSPY far exceeds the capability of VDSTS. Plus it is free for non-commercial use. The "dongle" is hard soldered into the cable end on VDSTS. The ECMSPY cable is simple to make. Cost is far less than what is spent for VDSTS. There is a wealth of information on the ECMSPY website.

You can't use the VDSTS cable. ECMSpy requires the use of FDDI USB cable to allow it to talk to the ECU.

Actually a TTL to RS232 converter is needed to mate the Uly ECM to a PC. This can be done by either USB or DB9 connection. Both will require a converter. A draw back to DB9 is they require an external 5 volt source to power the chip. The USB version does not.

I made my own DB9 adapter (total cost $25) I had my reasons. But if I were to do it over, I would go with the USB solution.
