I lost my spring and retainer and replaced it yesterday. When you lose the spring and retainer the kickstand just hangs limp so there's no danger involved.

The system consist of a c-shaped lever attached to the inboard side of the kickstand pivot point and a spring connecting it to the kickstand.

I just picked up the parts at the dealer and installed it myself. It is super easy since it only involves two bolts attaching the entire kickstand mechanism to the motor.

I first assumed that either the spring itself or the c-shaped lever had broken and that is why it failed. I can not say for sure, but it is possible that the c-shaped lever actually jumped off the pin it is attached to at the pivot. The hole in the lever is slightly oblong so it is designed to hook and catch on the pin which has a groove to receive and hold it.

So looking at this (before I put it all together again) I decided to go to ACE and pick up a retainer clip and slide it on behind the c-shape hopefully to prevent it from "jumping off" again.

However, it is entirely possible that I improved on something that is not a weak point. I have no idea if the spring/lever mechanism broke or if it jumped off the pin.

Just a FWIW..

Cheers
Asbjorn

Mine did the same thing at 3000kms. The black C-ring snapped and disappeared

Darcy,
So the spring and part of the c-shaped lever were actually still hanging on the bike when you discovered it?

Does anyone have any workshop manual pics of these parts? my spring and associated clip went missing on the way home from work today, no parts available in Australia so it will be weeks before they filter through the system.

a compressed spring length measurement would be handy if anyone can help
