This is the remains of two month old stock pads for my S1 (Buell by Ferodo CP901).  Has anyone seen this before? For a time they seemed to have disintegrated pretty badly...causing poor and inconsistent braking and toasting my rotor. I took them out just as they were getting better again. I talked to several techs and nobody had seen that before...most felt that it was just a bad pad...the other side was slightly pitted but not nearly as bad. I took it to my dealer and they of course said it was due to "being too hard on the brakes." To insult me further the owner later told my wife that he'd re-use them. Now, I'm not easy on brakes...but after wearing out 3 other sets of identical pads none showed even the slightest hint of pitting and I haven't changed my riding habits at all. Rick, Just for grins, see if you can email that picture to Ferodo cust support. This might be the link http://www.ferodo.co.uk/ferodo_home/ They might be able to give you a cause. Brad | ||

I've had my pads come out looking the same. I didn't think it was a problem or a cause for concern. The pads continued to function fine for me, even on the track. Would be interesting to hear what Ferodo says though. | ||

Bluzm2 I have had a similar problem once. I occurred while racing at Blackhawk racecourse with my honda 600F3. It was a real hot day and it had rained earlier, I hit a small puddle at the end of the strait doing about 140 hard on the brakes. the rest of the race my brakes were wooden (no feel). Turned out when I talked to some of the other guys the super rapid heating to cooling cycle simply shatters part of the brake pad. |
