I have an 03' XB9S
I'm up in the air on whether or not that thing is gone!! I hate the way it looks but I know it serves a very important purpose. Anybody have any input regarding keeping it or losing it?

Chrome it?

It depends on how you plan on using the bike: riding it a lot or showing it.

If your answer leans toward riding especially if using it for transportation, then keep the guards. You can always get them chromed to be different. You know why the factory put them there.

If you want to ride it to enter shows or go down to the local watering hole, take it off. Just steer clear of road debris like gravel, rocks, sand, etc.

However, you can have the bare look and not worry about damaging the belt by ditching the stock belt and replacing the sprockets, belt and idler pulley with an '04 upgrade kit (or is it '06, I'm not sure) available from American Sport Bike or, I think, from Buell for approx the cost of replacing 4 stock belts.

Others who may have gone this route, please chime in with your thoughts, advice or experiences with the latter.

Fair enough, you're probably right. Hopefully I receive some input on the 04 swap. It sounds like thats something I might want to do. Thanks for the advice.
