Final Update. Just had another conversation with Jürgen from SW- Motech. They will definitive not produce them for the Uly. There is simply not enough demand worldwide. Sorry for the bad news. Ride safe Werner |

I'm surprised by the response. Unlike other motorcycles, I believe that they would have nearly all the market for Buells and possibly many who already own brackets would swap out over time to get the cleaner look. |

-many who already own brackets would swap out over time to get the cleaner look. Are you calling us with brackets "unclean"! Just kidding, I would definitely swap for removable brackets. They don't realize the market they're losing. Poor decision. |

That is very disappointing. If I bought the XT I would still spend the money to get a clean detachable bracket. I have that for my FXDX and like the versatility of bags when needed and the look without them when not needed. How expensive would it be for SW-Motech to design the bracket for the Buell. They have a ton of different bikes covered. It is hard for me to believe they are all bigger sellers than the Buell would be. I know there are some here with serious skills. Anybody here think it is doable and worth it to design something like that and make it available? Dan |

That really does suck. Thanks Werner. How are you coming along by the way? John |

Low Uly sales numbers, but I'd bet a nearly 100% sales penetration. The stock racks look like ass, and the HB bags blow donkey. I'd love to have had a more attractive option for racks as well as better bag offerings. Werner, I hope you are getting better, but this announcement does indeed suck. |

very seldom I ever ride my Uly without at least the side cases its not really a concern to me. I always want to have room to carry extra stuff when I'm riding that I just use the side cases! |

I am a metal fabricator and just came into an extra set of mounting hardware. Can someone please explain just exactly what it is that we are looking for here? Do you want mounting hardware that can be removed without having to take out a few bolts? |

Removing the side brackets on a regular basis won't work. The alignment of the holes is so completely off that you risk stripping out bolt holes and bolts with each reinstallation. I'm wanting a quick release removal system that will allow me to take the ugly racks off the sides. I use my luggage on longer trips only. I don't commute with the Uly and don't need extra storage while riding around. I also wanted to have the ability to get different rack hoops giving me the option for different cases. |

I will give the quick release thing thorough study and get back to you ASAP. As for racks for different brands, there is a lot to consider here. The distribution of weight from loaded bags, for example. Also, I have no source of refference like I do for stock bags which are already in my posession. |

Zip tie plastic plates over the hoops ala number plates of the TT , (ok those are welded plates, but you get the idea)

Bummer! After taking off the racks on the Uly, I really do not want to put them back on. I love the clean look of the bike without the racks when the bags are off. I was waiting for the removeable racks. Well plan B. |

off topic: @ Johnny-Uly & Ft-bstrd, thank's guys. I'm doing a little better, still not back to work. But I tell you a secret. I was back in the saddle already. Not for long, but I figured better have some fun while in pain than sitting at home. I keep you informed. Ride safe Werner |

This sucks monkey balls. I know some of you are machinists and/or tool and die makes. Someone needs to look at the design of the removable SW Motech brackets on other bikes and fabricate a set of removable Uly brackets for sale to those here and on ADVRider. I hope to have my B12 sold soon and will buy an '08 Uly immediately thereafter. I HATE the way the stock brackets look with the bags removed. I live in the city and park in a commercial garage. I can't even fit my bike in my spot with hard bags installed, so they will be off the bike most of the time. Who's gonna step up? Tipsy |

Hey tispy, glad to hear that you sold the Bandit. I still have my Bandit but don't ride it that much since I bought the Uly. |

I spent a number of years fabricating and still dabble with contacts for machining and welding. I have not seen a close up pic of the mounting system but from a distance it looks like only the main hoops needs to be removed to clean up the lines of the bike. there are dozens of ways to do this especially with the hollow tubing. I refused to buy the bags because like many of you I didnt want the clutter except on occasion when I am really traveling. Can some one post some decent quality pics from a few angles and let me see what I can come up with. |

I guess you have to order the frame for the explicit saddlebag to fabricate the mountings. Ride safe Werner |

On my part, I just ordered the ugly Fehling racks and will get some Givi cases on Saturday. Ride safe Werner P.S. I tried to order the original bags from the States, but $ 120,- for shipping is just to much! Ride safe Werner |

After looking them over, it appears that the racks will have to be modified. I was hoping I could come up with something that I could just install where the racks bolt up and clip the racks to it. Too much weight. I wish I had begun this a long time ago. Has anyone else given this any thought yet? |

I've also noticed that Twisted Throttle sells the attaching components as replacement parts (such as the locking knobs) which could aid in developing a quality set of removable brackets. Or maybe we can just hit every forum where Uly rider congregate and implore everyone to send an email to SW Motech asking them to reconsider? Tipsy |
