This mod may not be needed for everyone, but for those of us who would like to eliminate the 1800-2000 rpm rumble in the console, this mod is for you. The factory uses the plastic headlight to connect the bottom of the console to the top of the fender then to the lower tree. You can do a better job of eliminating the perceived vibration in the console by installing a solid link between the front of the console and the lower tree. I used a 3/16" piece of aluminum angle to provide an upright tab to attach to. Use 2 bolts instead of one to sandwich the lower mounting tab between the headlight and the top of the front fender. Here is a shot of the lower mounting tab bolted to the top of the front fender. (Mine is a little different due to the DeathRay setup, but the concept still applies).
Use the back of the horizontal cross brace for the top mounting point by drilling a hole in the center of the back of the cross brace. Here is a shot of the rod end mounted to the cross brace:

By forming a rigid triangle from the top tree to the cowling to the lower tree, you have eliminated the 2k shake. Pimpin mah ride, from the inside. |

Where did you get the solid link? The 1/4" x 28 tpi rod end bearings used on the DeathRay racelights came from the throw-a-way pile here at work. When I needed two more, I couldn't find them anywhere. Later, I found some larger ones on ebay and called the guy here in FL and he had boatloads in stock. Try here. or Phone (813) 884-4688 or (813) 882-3227 |
