I noticed a local dealer has a number of leftover Ulys in stock (if I believe their web site). They have: (2) 2006 (asking $10,300) (2) 2007 (asking $11,000) (1) 2008 (asking $11,495) EDIT: added prices from their web site What kind of pricing would you expect on the 2006 models with the three bag setup? Is Buell throwing any incentives/help to the dealers to move leftover stock? I like the changes for 2008, but not sure I want to pay list plus fees plus tax/etc. (Message edited by garry on October 17, 2007) (Message edited by garry on October 17, 2007) |

Garry, my local dealer also has an 06-07-08 with the 06 going for 9995. Keep in mind that although you save around 2-3 K you are going to lose it back again immediately due to the depreciation of the year model. I had the same thought about the 07 until my wife told me to consider it's value in 3 years when you want to sell it! What a gal!!! I am getting the 08! |

I know I don't want to eat $2K in depreciation within a month of buying a 2006 and putting a few miles on it. Then it's just another low-mileage 2006 in excellent condition (worth $7500? maybe). I need to demo the Uly again and also the 2008. Still not convinced the engine suits me, but the rest of the bike is great and I'm a sucker for blowout pricing on leftovers. |

I have a chance to get an 06 demo/rental bike with 903 miles for $7500 plus taxes and fees. OTD would be $8400. Very tempting but I think I would rather have an 08 for the upgrades. |

Garry, what gave you aprehension about the motor? What are you riding now (in the past)? I demo'd the 2006 Uly three times last year. It's a torquey motor for sure, but doesn't spin up as fast as a sportbike or rev as high. Maybe it's just a matter of getting used to it. As a data point from a competing bike, I preferred the feel of the Ducati Multistrada engine. I'm currently riding a 2004 Wee Strom, a 2005 Kawi ZX-6R sportbike and a DRZ400S (for thrashing in the woods). The Uly (or Multistrada or KTM 950 Supermoto) all cover much of the ground of the Wee Strom and sportbike. At least how I use them. So I'm seeing if I can find one bike to replace two (Wee and 636) to make some room in the garage. |

In April I essentially got an '06 brandy new leftover with all 3 bags, and a 5 year extended warranty for the same price as an '08. |

You are always paying taxes. Even if the dealer lowers his price to half, you are still paying taxes on that. The state controls that, not the dealer. Dont want to pay them? Only way I know out of that is to live in a state that doesnt charge it to begin with (oregon for example). Though you probably will be paying your state taxes when you register it for licensing. You are paying the man no matter where you go, dont hold it against the dealer that is just playing by the rules. |

(2) 2006 (asking $10,300) ...you could advertise that deal for a hundred years and assuming that they managed a sale, it would only be the most ignorant of buyers who would bite. Perhaps that's what they are counting on. A 2006 - any 2006 - at $10,300 is tremendously overpriced...at that price you are being taken to the cleaners to the tune of $3,000 give or take. What would I pay for a 2006 model? Around $7750 - if it was loaded for bear, complete with top and sidecases, tankbag, 2007 seat, touratech farkles, and maybe even a GPS and/or extra lighting. Without those goodies, about $7000. These days, the used motorcycle market is saturated. If a buyer doesn't buy your unit, he'll buy an identical one that's one street, or one state, over. While farkles don't add much to the price, they do attract interest and move yours to the top of the list. Keep in mind that KBB values aren't very "real world" when it comes to motorcycles because of this as they consistently overestimate market value. (2) 2006 (asking $10,300) They couldn't lower these enough to make it worth your time. (2) 2007 (asking $11,000) $9995 is more reasonable and a consideration. (1) 2008 (asking $11,495) Have them throw in the bags for that price and ride it home. |

I agree that they're smoking crack if they think they'll get $10.3K for the 2006s. Heck, people bought them for $10K when they were the current year. Just wondering how low an offer is reasonable (not necessarily to them). Once you ride it off the lot, you now have a lightly used 2006 that's worth maybe $7500. Maybe they're an HD shop that thinks everything should sell for a minimum of MSRP and "discount" just means less markup over MSRP. Dunno... Seemed like nice folks when I was there for the demo last April. |

I recently got a 06 with 1 mile on odo for 8300$ OTD. I would shop and wait on prices on the 06-07's to continue decreasing. Chas |

I paid $9795 for a new '06 last January, so I would expect them to sell for less than that now. |

"Seemed like nice folks when I was there for the demo last April". Shysters are always on their best behavior while they are trying to pick your back pocket. Just as a point of reference, 2 years ago I paid $11,500 out the door price which included all three installed hard bags. If they don't want to have that 06' on their floor as an antique they'd better quit smoking crack and start dealing off the top of the deck. I hate dealers that think depreciation only happens off their lot. Remind them shit-birds that it also happens on their showroom floor when the bike sits there unsold for more than a few months (years in this case). Explain to them that you know that a sucker is born every minute but that you weren't one of them. |
