There won't be any insurance problems because there was a waiver, end of discussion, any other talk should be of how much fun everybody had, and how are the people who went down. Nothing else

Jay, Holly, Steve, Sue, Fritz, Hammer and those I did not mention, did a Great Job which seems to have been blurred by this unfortunate accident which shouldn't be a reflection of their work. Accidents are a risk at any motorcycle event. We can learn things from any event - Good or Bad.

Glad most had a good time, sorry for those that didn't. Get well soon to those that were hurt.

"because there was a waiver, end of discussion"

Don't count on any waiver being the end of the discussion.

...or any discussion where litigation is involved.

Rubberdown hit that on the head.

This is why I stress the fact that the injured individual who arrived with the NH crew was not, at the time or location of his accident, involved in the run.
Regardless of how he got where he was when he did, it was not part of the run, which was many miles away at the time (2:35pm-2:40 pm), with participants resting at Mount Peter, in Bellvale, NY.
While he may have initially been a part of the run, staying at Mike's place, enjoying the bonfire, the beers, etc., and he may have been at the starting point, he did eventually leave the run of his own volition.
at that point, he was on his own and no individual associated with the run was in any way responsible for him or his actions.

I know there are more pictures that were taken lets try to post some to remind everyone why we there to begin with. I for one sincerly hope that this unfortunate incident does not end the fun for every one. This event is something i am already looking forward to.....we are all responsible for ourselves period

The people were great, the roads were great and the weather too. Thanks to everyone who put forth the effort to make HH3 happen.

I hope Derrick recovers quickly. I prayed for him and the other riders.

I was surprised at how many people showed up. I'm sure next year will be bigger.
Obviously everybody feels bad about what happened. So Mike and I got to thinking about how the accident could have been avoided and what more could be done in the future. Somehow there needs to be verification of rider skill level. More groups that are smaller with hopefully some one who is familiar with the area. Even two way communication between the leader and the last rider. It's hard for the lead rider to keep track of everyone in his group. Blueant interphone is a bluetooth headset that clips on your helmet for around $150. It got good reviews and is supposed to be clear at high speed. I saw it for $110 on ebay. For the lesser experienced, a meeting on what to expect and how to ride and if this is the right group for you.

Again thanks to everyone who organized the event and all who helped and attended.

Motorcycle crashes kill 2, hospitalize 3
October 23, 2007

Two people are dead and three are in the hospital after three separate motorcycle crashes in two days throughout the region.

Shawangunk town police were investigating a fatal motorcycle wreck that occurred just after 10 a.m. yesterday on Route 52 in Walker Valley, near the intersection with Weed Road. Route 52 was closed in both directions while the scene was cleared.

Police said a 49-year-old Napanoch man on a motorcycle sped around two cars heading east on Route 52 before he crashed head on into an oncoming vehicle. The man died at the scene. The woman driving the other vehicle wasn't injured. Police haven't released the names of the people involved.

The other two crashes happened Sunday in Ulster and Orange counties.

At 11:30 a.m. Sunday in Marbletown, Larry Eng of Manhattan was driving a 2005 Yamaha west on County Route 2 when Margaret Gilliland pulled out of her driveway, state police said. Eng was going too fast to stop and slammed into Gilliland's vehicle, police said. He died at the scene. Gilliland wasn't hurt or ticketed.

Later Sunday in Tuxedo, two motorcycles collided with one another. Both operators and a passenger remained in the hospital yesterday. Derek Cincevich failed to negotiate a turn with his 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle about 2:40 p.m. on County Route 106 in Harriman State Park, state park police.

Cincevich crossed a double yellow line and collided with a motorcycle driven by John Martin of West Haverstraw. Martin's wife, Lynn, was a passenger.

Cincevich was flown to Westchester Medical Center, where he was in critical condition with multiple injuries.

Lynn Martin was also flown to Westchester, where she was in stable condition. John Martin was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, where was in stable condition.

If you and your pal Mike are so safety-conscious (while suggesting the run be better organized), maybe the brew-fest at a local's house the night before should be discontinued, for starters.

You wanna talk safety?

$150 bluetooth headset's ain't it.

Suggesting that your riding buddies (while you're partying with them the night before) moderate their intake would be a better step toward safety.

Hangovers and riding do not mix.

One person drank a lot the night before the ride and he was fine the next morning. It was not Derrick. You have no right to claim people were trashed the night before the ride. You weren't there.

Mike was kind enough to let people stay at his place for your event and you're ragging on him?

My comments in regards to improving the event were not intended to offend anyone. Sorry you took it that way.

I think ANY suggestions/2nd thoughts on how the run could've been done differently and somehow could've prevented/lessened the outcome only serve to cast the organizers in a bad light. And is not needed.I avoided the "party" because last year i got soooooo trashed that after our mountaintop meeting(good pics of the beached whale too) i went back to the motel and went back to sleep it off.Stayed sober this time

This is sooo out of line I don't know where to begin...

Alcohol was NOT a factor in the accident, Mike while allowing people to stay at his place was by NO means responsible for the accident. Everybody is responsible for themselves...

Mike - I hope the above comments don't put you down or turn you sour to having friends over...it was a great night...lots of bs'ing, bike fixing, tech talk...that is 50% of the fun, that's where the frien
ds are made and met again. You were the one to provide that and THANK YOU!!!

I can't wait to get out to see you guys again!}

To Dereck, his family and friends, I wish the best and will keep all in my prayers.

Tramp. I met you at Hammers BBQ this past summer and enjoyed meeting you and thought you to be a pretty swell guy. I didn’t make it to HH3 but hoped to make it next year to HH4. However, the online berating of Mike and Rich is not enticing me to make it next year and is making you appear as a little man which I hope you are not.

I am posting this because of the false picture being painted of Mike and Rich.
I met Mike and Rich this year and have had nothing but good times. I am not a great rider but am at least triple the rider I was before meeting them and others in the HV crew. Mike has taught me to ride properly and safe, how to ride the bike and how not to ride. Always with safety first. I am generally the slowest rider in the group and have never been pressured to ride beyond my abilities. They always show great enthusiasm when they see I have improved. Mike has taken the time to instruct and teach me to better my riding skills even when his riding opportunities have been limited. Mike and Rich have always been about safety and “unspuidish” riding behavior. What they have taught me has saved my ass more than once. So, thank you Mike and thank you Rich.

Again, to all involved in the accident I wish you well.

Sean

look at this from both sides.

derick, his friends and family have endured a sad, frightening, & emotional time. our thoughts are with all riders involved!

now step into jay's shoe's. he mapped out a ride for all of us to have a good time at. unfortunately an accident happened. now think about it, in our litigous(sp) society he is required to make it clear that derick was off the official route at the time of the accident. this was not done to be disrespectful to those involved, it is an unfortunate requirement of our society.
jay went out on a limb to make this happen for all of us! even though we all know he had nothing to do with the mishap, he's potentially between a rock and a hard place.
keep in mind how difficult it can be to convey thoughts through the written word, there is no tone, inflection, or body language and everyone reads into it what they may.
we need to be behind all of our people involved.
